axle upgrade?

I have a 7k trailer ,two 3500# axle's. After reading a few threads on here I started wondering if I could convert my trailer to 5k axle's. If so what else would have to be upgraded in order to have a 10k trailer instead of a 7k trailer?. Current trailer is a "car hauler" 16' plus 2' dove diamond plate bed.What would the cost be?

If you have a 7K trailer and you are maxing out your tires/axles then you are overloading the trailer frame also. It might be easier to just sell yours and buy a bigger trailer. Adding bigger axles and tires would probably overload your trailer frame. The frame would have to be beefed up too.

Yep, what he said! Unless it is a trailer that is available WITH THE SAME FRAME rated at 10,000lbs, I wouldn't bother. Most places making trailers don't put much extra material in them because everyone wants a low price. Steel is expensive and the trailer sales business operates on a slim profit, so you pretty much get what you pay for and nothing extra.

If you were going to stick within the 7,000lb range but just wanted better axles and springs, then it could be done with new axles and springs and new wheels ant tires.

I hate to say these but we have been demanding more for our money as consumers and it is to the point where you can no longer buy a trailer tire that isn't made in China. I have been told that trailer tires should be replaced every four years!
