Need a little guidance. Replaced the float in the 6.5hp B&S Intek engine. Prior to replacing the cracked float the engine would start but not run after warm up with choke open. I washed the carb and replaced the float. The rubber seal doesn't sit perfectly in the carb bowl...
Any way the engine starts but will not run if choke is open. New gas, gas is getting to carb when I try to open choke the engine revs up and down before stalling and you can see the throttle linkage(governor?) move when it revs up and down. The carb doesn't appear to be adjustable or can be taken apart... What should I look for?

TIA...

Did you clean the jet that is in te nut that holds the bowl on. It could be partially plugged causing your problem. the other thing I have seen on the ones I have worked on in my shop is the idle side of the carb will get a piece of dirt or corrosion in it and about the only thing you can do to fix it is just to replace the carb intirely.

Randy thanks. Yes I did. I redid a cleaning of the jet/inlet that is operated by the float. I will also get a new o-ring/gasket for the bowl. The present one is stretched and doesn't really fit properly. The engine does run now but I will also replace the plug and air filter. You're right about the carb replacement! The unit is designed to be replaced not repaired.

For small orifices, mechanical cleaning along with chemical cleaning is often advantageous. One of the better tools for that is the old fashioned pipe cleaner.

It is becoming more common on the new emissions carb that if you get something in some of the orifices mainly on the idle side ie dirt, corrosion it will be impossible to clean that passage because you cannot get anything into the passage to open the obstruction. Even the OEM's are now telling the dealers like me that with the problems with the new formulation of fuels the carbs may need to be replaced because they will be impossible to clean adequately to run properly.

I am not saying ethanol is a problem, but ethanol is a catalyst for water contamination which causes corrosion.
