Came across this page. Interesting to see these B-20 models marketed in the UK. 12-16-18 horse power B tractors. The B models we have here in North America are called B30 over there, apparently. Kubota doesn't sell the B20 series here.

Take a look:

One of the things I noticed was that while at first blush, these engines seems low powered perhaps, the RPM at which each is rated is much lower.

For example, their 16 hp is the same engine I have in my BX which in North America, is spun up higher to get a higher 18 hp rating. I have always felt that doing so, to get a higher HP rating was a bit of marketing smooze.

Personally, and this is only me, I think the lower rating is more accurate.

It also seems to confirm my suspicions that North Americans are all about bigger numbers and rather like being marketed to in this way. Just my .02

*It's and EPA and OSHA won't approve them to be imported to the USA situation. .

No, It isn't an EPA deal at all.

Kubota puts what we know as BX engines in the B frames and markets them. In Britain, you can buy three models of B, with engines we have in our BXs.

A lot of stuff gets banned for shipment to the USA because it won't pass EPA and OSHA inspection.

I am not talking about importing British tractors.
I am saying that Kubota, in Japan, puts together a different package for the British market than they do for the US market. That's all.

I find it interesting that they put their smaller engines in the B chassis for the British market. Again, please understand, the EPA or OSHA has nothing to do with this.

Wow are they under powered across the pond. A B1830....... i wouldn't have much interest in my 3030 with 12 less hp.

Yeah, by our standards. But this is what Kubota used to do here in the US in the '80s and '90s. B's and L's both started with single digit HP, back in the day.

Remember too, that they are rating them at a more legit RPM. In other words, what they label a 16 hp, here, US Kobota labels an 18 hp, by winding it up a couple more hundred RPM. The engines themselves being identical.

Remember too that Kubota UK also offeres the similar, higher HP B series that we know here. They call those B30 models. They also only offer one BX model, the 2350, which obviously is a 23 HP. No other BX model, which helps explain the BX1500 "like" B-20, lower HP models?

*I was so that explains why you and I were standing on opposite sides of the gate.
