b1700 questions!!

I'm looking at a 1999 b1700 at a dealer lot with 54 hours on it. It was originally sold in March 2000 and is a one owner. It has a mmm with a kubota grass catcher. It looks in mint condition, but the dealer says he's had it since last fall. His list price was 10,750, but he came to 9,900 then to 9,500. Is this a fair price or still too much? Also, for those who have a b1700, does the mmm cut a nice finish cut? And for those who have a kubota grass catcher, do they work well? In addition, any comments in general about the b1700 would be welcomed!

$9500 does not sound too bad for that setup. 54 hrs. is practically new.
The fact that it's from a dealer doesn't hurt, IF he's a good dealer /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Is the dealer offering any kind of warranty?


I'm very happy with the cut on my B2400, which is the same setup as the
unit you're looking at. Of course, many here prefer the suspended
deck of the BX's.

As far as the grass catcher goes, it was on my list of attachments
to get when I first got my tractor. But, I found I don't really need one.
Even without a mulching kit, there is rarely a need for raking.

I have a B1700 with the 54" mmm. It works very nicely but will leave wheel marks on some types of grass. I can plow through heavy grass with no difficulty at a reasonable speed.

Attaching the mower is easy with the front-end loader attached since you can lift the front end with the bucket, but mowing with the loader is heavy and risky to trees. The mower uses the 3pt arms for lifting but if you are careful you
can mow with an attachment on the back. I regularly mow
with the bucket and boxscraper attached but I'm only cutting my septic field grass occasionally.

The mower sounds sweet too, like the fine piece of machinery it is.
