HI all,

our trusted B1750 recently got stuck in gear. We are thinking of taking the gear box apart ourselves; we are not professional mechanics, we have basic tools and common sense. We also have a copy of the illustrated parts catalog.

Do you think a rebuild is possible, or are we way out of our league?
TIA
Nikolas

Isn't that one a regular gearbox with the shifter in the top cover? If so I bet if you remove the top cover you will find a slightly bent shifter fork that you can "adjust" (Bend back as it was) without any further disassembly. Been there, done that. Good luck!

Some more info: the shifter is in neutral, one cannot shift into 1st, 2nd, or 4th gear at all; it is possible to move the shifter into 3rd position, but the tractor does not move. Since the engine dies when disengaging the clutch, we are assuming it is stuck in gear within the gbox.

As said before, we are not professional mechanics, so we may be wrong -:)

For what you are going to do, basic tools will work fine, and common sense will get it done I would definitely remove the top cover, if it has one and check if you have bent or broken fingers as Paul mentioned the fork fingers could be bent or wore thin. Check for broken forks, put everything back to neutral, then place the shifter back on, and it should be fine until someone tries a quick shift and gets 2 gears engaged again KennyV.

Sounds like a broken shifter fork. The fork broke after shifting the trans into 3rd and now the shifter detent is doing its job - keeping the shifter from going into any other gear. When you take the top cover off you'll see it all there. You can reach in and move the 3rd gear shifter collar back to neutral - then the tractor will roll ok until the broken fork is repaired/replaced.

Thank you all for the VERY helpful responses. I will take the top cover off this weekend and see what happens. For what it matters, the incident did not take place while shifting from 2nd to 3rd; the tractor was rolling in 2nd and suddenly it came to stop.

Again, thanks for taking the time to respond.

If it is locked up, the transmission may be in 2nd and 3rd at the same time - that would stop it cold - hopefully no gears are broken. Still points to the shifter forks.
