I added 4 additional work lights to my b20 for plowing at night. Running them keeps draining the battery where it needs a jump to start. Is it possible that the alternator is that small and if so can a larger aftermarket be purchased / fit?

robs660,

A number of alternators only put out paltry 15 amps. I have no idea what kind of lights you installed, but let us assume they were the common 55 watt light. 4 x 55 = 220 watts at 12 volts this is over 18 amps (220/12).

I believe any type of alternator from Kubota is going to be mega bucks. Perhaps there is one in the aftermarket that will work, but that is going to take a lot of research on your part. Then again, maybe someone has gone down this path and has a solution for you.

Here is a different approach. Replace the four conventional lights with ones using LED. LED are considerable more efficient and will draw less current for the same amount of lumens. Do a quick Google search and I知 certain you値l find some good one. They will be expensive, but likely to be cheaper than an alternator.

The first and easiest thing I would do is check the output specs of the alternator which might be in your owners manual but you might have to look else where. Also, check the belt and make sure it is tight and not bottoming in the groove causing it to slip. You can tell if the belt is slipping by running the tractor with the lights on. Stop the tractor and feel the pulley. If hot, then the belt is slipping.

Belt is good pulley is cool after running. What about a much Bigger battery? This is driving my nuts as the snow keeps coming and plowing becoming a chore not a fun task

Have you checked the output of your alternator? Maybe it is pooched.
