hi, i am new to this forum, just bit the bullet yesterday and i am wondering if i did the right thing............i negotiated a buying price of $11,700.00 for a 1995 , B20 tractor/BT750 backhoe/ TL420A loader with 1,272.5 hours on it, in very good condition, 4WD hydrostat with D950AT, 4 cycle/3 cylinder engine...........i live in new jersey, and i live on 6 acres of slope, woods, rockwall boundary lines, for landscaping and logging wood around and maybe digging up stumps out of ground.......so i ask to the experts on this board did i get a good bargain and or tractor for the jobs i described ??? thanks and look forward to hearing everybody`s opinion, thanks Tom /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hi,

Welcome to the forum. I don't know how good of a deal you got. I believe the B20 is the predecessor to the current B21 and I think a new one of those will cost you around $23k...maybe more or less.

If yours is in real good shape, then it seems like you got a real good deal.

Let us know how it works out for you.

I priced a new B20 in 1995 before deciding it was too expensive for me and I didn't really need a backhoe. So I bought a B7100 instead, but if I remember right the price quote I got back then for the B20 was approximately $22,000. So if it's in good shape, I'd think it would be worth what you paid.

I appreciate the responses. I hopefully am getting it today. I`ve read the forums and checked the Kubota website, it`s those low finance rates that have questioning myself, BUT, all in all for getting tractor/loader/backhoe for that price....isn`t bad at all.........THANKS for the responses, and I welcome anyothers. I will also let you know how it works out, THANKS AGAIN, Tom /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Tom,
I have a B21, which is the newer version of the B20 TLB. You will be able to do the jobs you described just fine with your new tractor. Stumps can be hard work for any of the small backhoes so don't expect them to pop right out.

You mentioned that your land is sloping so be careful on side slopes until you get a good feel for the tractor. The rear wheels on the B20 can not be extended out and the tractor has a narrow foot print with a great deal of weight up high with the backhoe attached. There are several items that I feel have improved the performance of my tractor and you might want to consider some of them in the future. A tooth bar for the loader made a dramatic difference in digging ability. The added benefit of the tooth bar is that it helps anchor the tractor during backhoe work much better than just the loader. Loading the rear tires with liquid gave me much better traction and stability on hills. A tiltmeter has been a great reference when working on my hilly terrain. A draw bar would be a good thing for your logging plans. Pulling from a draw bar is much safer than hooking to your 3 pt hitch.

You got yourself a real workhorse for a small tractor. Good luck and don't dig up the whole yard the first week it upsets the wife. Don't ask how I know. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

My reply is almost exactly like MarkV. I too have a B21 and use it on 9 hilly acres and a landscaping business. Definetly load the rear tires, get a tiltmeter and go low and slow. Removing the stumps is not easy with this size machine. I have spent whole days on one stump. But other wise its a serious machine in a compact package and 1200 hours, if it was well maintained, is just getting broken in.
I think I paid close to 30K for a new 2001 B21 (with more attachments) so it sounds like a great deal. Did you get it from a private party or rental yard?

Thanks again for the great feed-back........got it home now as we speak........and yes i bought it from a private owner..... I am now going to change all of the filters and oil, and i have to get an owners manual for the tractor, he did not have it........also gave me the trailer hitch attachment , i did not get the 3 point hitch attacment, but he said he would sell me that with a 60" fine grass cutter for $1,00.00 if i wanted.......I do not know if i want that and didn`t have a chance to haggle a better price yet...............I AM LOVING LIFE WITH MY NEW BABY........THANKS AGAIN, Tom /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Tom,
Congratulations, I know you are excited getting your tractor home. When you say he gave you the "trailer hitch attachment" are you referring to a bar that slips in receiver opening below the PTO similar to a receiver hitch on a truck? If so, that is a draw bar and the proper place to drag logs or other heavy items from. You also mention not getting the 3 point hitch attachment. Are we talking about the 3 pt arms, top link and other related pieces? If that is the case I sure don't know why he would want to keep them with the finish mower. They would not be applicable to any other tractor. Also be aware that these are pretty expensive items to buy from a dealer. Might want to see what you can negotiate if I understand you correctly.
