Was just looking over an invoice of parts I ordered from Kobota and noticed that for a B21 engine oil filter (#15241-32099) I was charged $11.07. Is this the real price. Thats a lot of money for such a small filter, especially since it needs to be changed every fifty hours. Kinda looks like the filter on a nissan pickup.

Is there another filter that is good and is more reasonable in price. I'm changing to Rotella T oil because I don't much care for the Kobota oil either. I'll be thankful for all suggestions or recomendations.

Thanks, Rick

Measure the gasket diameter outside to outside in inches where it seals on the block. This is the most critical dimension. These filters generally use 20 x 1.5 mm (metric) threads, so that shouldn't be an issue. Also get the overall outside diameter of the oil filter. Unless access is tight or something on the tractor is close to the filter, the outside diameter won't be that critical. On a diesel oil filter, the outside diameter is usually roughly an inch more than the gasket diameter; the difference is less on a filter on a gasoline engine. The height of the filter, or how far it sticks out from the block, usually won't be an issue on a tractor.

Take the gasket and outside diameters to your NAPA dealer, who should have a chart enabling him to match these dimensions. Simply make sure the gasket diameter matches as closely as possible, the threads are metric, and the outside diameter is somewhere near to that of the Kubota filter. When you get a close NAPA match, you're in business. This should cut your filter cost in at least half.

Rick572,
I hope you realize that there is much more involved in an oil filter than just outside dimensions. The internal makeup, such as pressure drop, relief valve pressue etc. are also absolutely critical. I also hate the high prices, but a major engine failure is pretty expensive also. Before you take that chance you might want to hear what others are using with exactly the same machine and how long they have been successful with that substitute.
It is each individuals choice of course and I don't mean to detract from the person with the precious suggestion at all. Just be careful.

My B2710 oil filter was about $5.00 from the dealer. It is a grey one that is made in Japan. The HST filter was not too bad either, about $5.00 and made in the USA. The other hydro filter was about 12.00 and also made in Japan.

Rick,
This is the original Japanese filter. It has now been updated to a 70000-15241, which should run about 5$. Also, only the initial change is 50hrs, after that its oil every 100hrs and filter every200hrs. For 5$ i'd change the filter every 100 anyway. I'm not really an oil expert, but Kubota's oil is one of the highest grade non-synthetics you can find. The main thing is to make sure its rated for diesel.

Thankyou for the responses. I had lost this thread and throught maybe it died. Anyway, sounds like good advise and I will save the part number for the new filter.

Thankyou,
Rick
