Buying Advice B2301 Kubota Purchase

We are considering purchasing a B2301. Can I get some feedback from current owners? We own 4 acres, almost flat, in Bremerton, Washington. We need to drag out dead/fallen trees, rip out blackberry bushes and morning glory vines and level everything by adding topsoil. And remove about a 100 each 3-4 inch alder trees. We have a 400 foot driveway that will need grooming and pothole repair. We did look at the BX23S, but husband likes the bigger tires etc. on the B2301.

Either a B2601 or a B2650 will serve you well maintaining four flat acres.

We need to:

1) remove about 100 each 3-4 inch alder trees

Removing pesky Alders is not small tractor work. It is too easy for a neophyte operator to roll a tractor attempting tree removal which introduces potentially lethal tractor instability. Either cut with a chainsaw, burn the debris and wait for the stumps to rot or hire an excavator to remove Alders intact.

2) drag out dead/fallen trees

Tractors are designed to drag and pull. You will have no difficulty with this task. Check to determine if a 'drawbar' is standard or optional equipment with the tractor you select. You will need 1/4" Grade 70 chain and a slip hook for connecting tree to drawbar.

3) rip out Himalyan blackberry bushes and morning glory vines.

Adding a Ratchet Rake attachment to your Front End Loader bucket will allow you to tear out blackberries. More roots will come out raking moist soil. Burn debris. Spray any new shoots with an herbicide including Tryclopyr.

4) level everything by adding topsoil.

Front End Loader (FEL) bucket to transport dirt. Ratchet Rake to level.
Counterbalance mounted on the Three Point Hitch is essential to maintain rear wheels of tractor in solid ground contact when lifting loads with the FEL.

How is your tractor performing on this Kitsap County hard clay soil?

You cannot DIG with a Ratchet Rake.
If you need to dig clay with a light tractor FEL, a bucket toothbar will make bucket entry into hard clay much easier. Ratchet Rake and toothbar are not interchangeable. Each has distinct applications.

5) We have a 400 foot driveway needs grooming and pothole repair. << Dirt or Gravel?

Ratchet Rake for minor grading.

Box Blade or Land Plane Grading Scraper for more serious repairs.

A heavy Box Blade makes excellent counterbalance to laden FEL weight. Without counterbalance tractor cannot pick up a full bucket of dirt without being dangerously unstable.

Thank you for all the info. Too bad you live so far away. About the alders, we will cut with a chainsaw and then dig out the stumps with a backhoe. I don稚 think I said that clearly. I知 off to watch the videos links you suggested. Have a nice day!
