Not sure about your tractor. But, on most 4WD's, you only have back brakes when you are in 2WD. Going downhill with a load in 2 WD can get dangerous. Use 4WD only when you need it.

No. I'd say to use 4wd all the time. Only take it out when you're on a long paved road. Unless you're on completely flat land. Extremely dangerous to go downhill with only 2wd.
