I just finished helping a buddy repair B2400 HSD/4WD that was split in half by the previous owner. We got it all working, but while playing around in the yard we realized the loader doesn't have "float". Is that correct or is the loader valve another area we need to work on? The control stick is ridiculously slopped. It rotates in ~7" circle without doing anything hydraulic. The machine has had a very rough life.

My loader has a float position. I have a LA352 loader. Also float option could depend on which valve you have.

This one has the LA351 loader. That might be useful information. LOL

Recent forum post about float position revealed many owners were not doing the extra snap/push to get it into float. Not saying you aren't but try just one more firm push forward to make sure.:)

Odds are if your linkage is that sloppy it is what's keeping it from going all of the way into the float position. I would correct the linkage problem first and see where you are.

I'll give it a shot when I see the machine today. I'm familiar with the "float shove" from my other Kubotas :)

Brian,

A very real possibility. I'll start doing a search on sloppy FEL sticks.

I'd start by going to the Kubota website and looking at the parts breakdown for the linkage. It is pretty clear to see which parts are worn. Usually it is the yoke, the handle, the pin between the yoke and handle, and the bushing the yoke goes through on the mounting plate. It is likely the other short pieces of linkage will have some wear too and I usually replace it all when possible.

If you are mechanically inclined, you could take the cap off the bottom of the valve and see if it has a float assembly, balls and springs.

Can you see how much the spools move in and out of the valve. Should be about 1/2 to 3/4 in.
