While mowing yesterday, I noticed my B2400 running warmer than normal, about 7/8 of full scale. Normally, it doesn't go past 1/2, maybe 5/8 when over 90. It was fairly warm and I knew the rad and screen probably needed cleaning, so I decided to finish mowing. When almost complete, I noticed a fuel smell, then noticed fuel leaking around the filter. I shut the mower down, took tractor back to the garage, shut it down and opened the hood to help cool it down. I also noticed a wax-like substance on the upper part of the engine. I'm going to take a closer look tonight, now that its cooled. I'm wondering if this has a fuel cooler. And, if the fuel cooler malfunctioned, could it cause a gasket or some other fuel component to melt?

Thanks

Hello Gomez,

These indirect injection fuel engines have no need for a fuel cooler as the excess unburned fuel is returned to the fuel tank.

Diesel fuel waxing occurs at cold temperatures.
You "wax" may just be a bit of fried dried motor oil residue from the valve covers and grass dust.

Are you using up winter blend fuel?

You seem to have a tiny fuel leak at the filter where the filter gasket may be bad and that is most if not all the problem a sthe filter should never leak.

Wash your radiator our with a garden hose low pressure water and you shoud be fine otherwise.

EDIT: Whoopsie;

Yes and a paddy slapping for me for not mentioning it should be washed only after the work is done.

It won't be fuel over heating but your problems will be a result of overheating your engine. These little diesels are very sensitive to overheating and are not very forgiving of that type of abuse.:(

You should not use water to clean the radiator. If you must use water, do it after the work is done and the unit can FULLY DRY! Otherwise, all your dirt and debris (from using after cleaning) simply sticks in the radiator. This sounds like a "no brainer," but I see people hose it out and then use the equipment everyday. Just FYI.

That is one of biggest reasons I like the Duetz
"Air Diesel" air cooled engines so much too.:thumbsup:
