Can there be any harm done to the 4wd if it is engaged when used on dry ground. When mowing I some times need 4wd when I get on a slope and forget to disengage the 4wd and realize that I have been mowing for some time. I also have noticed that it turns sharper when in 4wd.

I do not want to cause any unnecessary harm by leaving it in 4wd, I for sure need it in the winter to clean the snow off my driveway.

The machine should be fine in 4 wheel drive while going straight ahead, it's turning that is the concern. Assuming that mowing means dirt and grass surface there should be sufficient surface slippage to prevent excessive wear but it could chew up your lawn more. I would stay away from sharp turns in 4 wheel drive on dry pavement or other high traction surfaces. I have a small section of lawn that I mow with a relatively steep incline and I often use 4 wheel drive for that.

I run my B2400 in 4WD all the time. I use it primarily for mowing in the summer and plowing snow in the winter. It chews the lawn up more when in 2WD because sometimes the rears slip when making a sharp turn or when the grass is slightly wet. It has about 1100 hours on it. The only time I notice any problems in 4WD is when I'm turning on my concrete driveway.

Dry pavement for any vehicle engaged in 4-wheel drive is a killer. They say wet pavement is okay, but I would only engage the 4-wheel for dirt and snow.

Thanks guys for the input,,,,,Yep I was concerned that I could cause some internal damage by constantly hooked up in 4wd. Dry pavement in 4wd of course is a not to do procedure. When mowing I always intend to mow in 2wd but I get on a slippery spot or down in the ditch by the road and I go to 4wd. Then I forget and leave it there sometimes and when I notice it I switch back to 2wd. Out back in my pasture I have 5ac to keep mowed and it is flat and I always have it in 2wd,,,,the 4wd comes in to play around the house.

I could not take care of this place without my B2400. Besides snow removal and mowing,,,,,I take her down in the woods with me pulling a mid size trailer to haul out fire wood that I have cut. The compact size is perfect for getting around amongst all the trees and brush.
