Been doing a lot of snow blowing (front mounted snow blower) this season. Tractor is stored in an unheated garage. Normally the tractor isn't started until it is needed for snow blowing. I idle the tractor until a little temperature shows on the gage, then move it forward in the garage in 2 wheel drive (garage has a concrete floor and I put it in 4 wheel drive when the front of the tractor is outside on the snow). For the first 10 feet or so, there is a loud squealing noise coming from the lower front of the tractor (drive shaft to front wheels?). Sounds like metal on metal contact. However when I snow blow in 4 wheel drive, the noise is not there. I don't think putting it in 4 wheel drive is the reason the noise goes away. I think whatever is squealing gets enough lubrication/clearance to make the noise go away.
I havn't been able to check it out yet--weather is too cold + sub-frame for the snowblower is in the way. Tractor is a 1995 B2400 hydrostatic with about 770 hours on it. It has been used only for mowing (mid mount mower) + snow blowing (no loader work).
Any ideas on what I should check and how to check it out? Thanks
