B2719 & Gannon 6' box

B2719 & Gannon 6\' box

My brother has a 6' Gannon box blade with scarifiers he's trying to get rid of. Anyone want to tell me it ISN'T too big to pull behind a 2710?

Any recommendations about size best suited....and manufacturers(Land Pride,...)?

Tom, I think 5' box blades are more commonly used on the B2710. I have a Howse 5' one myself. They're not one of the heaviest brands by a long shot, but it's adequate for my usage. However, I'd really like to try that 6' one on my tractor. I think the B2710 could handle it unless you drop all the scarifiers deep in hard ground.

I have a B2710 with a 5' King Kutter box blade and a 6' King Kutter landscape rake. Both seem well sized for the machine and although you could possibly go larger, I feel the overall performance may suffer. My experience thus far is somewhat limited (60 total tractor hours - a good portion backhoe work), but I have had very good results around home using the attachments for landscape work and last weekend when I leveled, graded and removed rock at my brother-in-law's septic field.

Tom,I have a 6' Bush Hog box blade and our B2710 handles it just fine.The 6' weights 550 lbs. The 5' was 500 lbs. They also offer a 65" box that I thought would be a perfect fit,but Dealer had none in stock,I did'nt want to wait.Not sorry I went with the 6 footer.

Tom,

Maybe this will help, I have an L3410 and a new Gannon 66" box blade. It's the series with the manually retractable scarifier bar and it is 820 pounds. A real beast. I only have about 6 hours work with it so far, but in working with my soil conditions, it's the biggest the tractor can handle. (with me in the seat anyway/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif)

Why not larger? With the scar bar down and the shanks set deep, the tractor really knows it's back there! Also with the R4 tires, and a full box, traction is a problem. The 66" box has 6 scarifiers and the 72 inchers typically have 8 scarifiers, so drag will be higher.

Can you try your brothers box out to see how your tractor handles it in you soil? That's going to be the real test. Also, the weight of the box will probably require you to keep your FEL on the tractor or else you may need to add front weights. I had to fill my FEL bucket with heavy clay in the worst conditions to keep good traction.

As they say, your milage may vary....

Thanks for the replies. It'd be best to test, but the tractor and Box blade are 1500 miles apart at present, and I'm trying to decide if I should ship a new BB w/the tractor, or hope that this one will work. A third possibility is to buy a BB locally.... It sounds to me like I should try another at any rate.

Seems like the scarifier spacing was about 12" between(I didn't count them), and it had a handle/spring catch mechanism to release the teeth without leaving the seat.

Tom, IMHO I would probably give the 6' BB a run for its money. Like Bird, I think the 2710 would handle it fine, with the exception of the scarifiers being all the way down. It may or maynot be a little wimpy at that time, depending on your soil and soil conditions.

If you have Ag tires and your soil isn't too tough you may be ok. If it is the same model line as mine but 72" vs 66" I guess it is about 900 pounds. You WON'T break it at any rate, eh? If you have R4's and the soil is good, you should be ok. I couldn't even guess how turf tires would do.

What the Heck, go for it!

Gannon is a good brand too, so if you get it and you can't use it, resale should be pretty easy. Heck, I'll give you $100.

I would agree with John Bud. Gannon is one of the top of the line box blades and even if it proves to be a bit much for your tractor you should be able to resell it without problem. Go for it.

I was wondering how much you paid for that 6' bush hog blade, my local dealer wants 625.00 for it. Just wondering if this is a good price. Thanks
