I've got 3 hours on my new B2782 snowblower. I see in the manual it calls for chain lubrication every 4 hours. I've been wondering what to use and how to apply it. On my previous B2660 blower,I was able to remove the chain cover by removing 2 screws, giving access to the top of the chain assembly.I could then apply lube while rotating the driveshaft to cover the whole chain. I actually used Lucas oil treatment as it was recommended by a biker friend who said it was the best and he'd tried them all.
The B2782 came from the dealer with a heavy grease on the chain. I can see the chain through the opening on the left side of the chain cover. I've also remavod the right cover to check out the chain. I guess I'd like to think I could rotate the driveshaft and apply lube, but there's that driveshaft safety cover in the way. And the auger won't readily turn as the drive ratio is too tall. I do have a can of that spray chain lube.
Your suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I haven't relubed mine yet, but did have it apart to replace the chain. My plan of attack would be to remove the chain cover, spray what you can, rotate by pushing on the fan (not the auger). Note - if you have a pto brake (the B3030 does) put the selector in "rear" mode - which will release the mid PTO for easier movement.

Don稚 get a lot of snow around here anymore but I have used spray chain lube on my Excel Hustler blower for over 10 years use the nozzle tube with the blower running at low speed, you can place it right on the chain, will not fling off unless you apply too much Needless to say you should apply reasonable caution while servicing anything moving If you are not able to do that, you probably should not be operating a tractor Happy snow season, KennyV

Gentlemen-Thank you for your replys. KennyV-That thought occured to me. However the B3030HSDC has a safety interlock and the mid-PTO won't operate with the seat vacant. I haven't yet been aggravated enough to bypass the safety. Of course the sack of potatoes in the seat would work!
Hazmat-Perfect plan of attack! I just went out and tried shifting into rear PTO only-the shaft rotates much easier by turning the blower fan. I've yet to decide whether to spray chain lube into the opening on the left of the unit or remove the cover and pour on the Lucas while rotating the fan. I'm embarassed I didn't come to that conclusion. Thanks again Guys.

.

Motorcycle chain lube.

Comes in a spray can like WD40. It sprays on "wet", then the alcohol evaporates over the course of a few minutes giving the lube time to soak in. Afterwards, you have a sticky non-slinging grease impregnated into your chain.

Stick a wooden tapered shingle in the switch to hold it closed[Ido this running my chipper]Or if you hook the seatbelt and crank it down tight that might work.JUST BE CAREFULL!!!!

The shingle trick sounds interesting. I'm sure the day will come when I'll want to see the blower running while not in the seat. I'll have to check out that seatbelt idea as well. The B3030 is really quite friendly with the safeties. It will start with no one in the seat. The rear PTO will run if the seat is tilted foward. It will quit if you depress the hydro pedal and the seat is vacant. But if hooking up a rear implement, you can push on the hydro pedal ever so slightly and move the tractor just at a creep to help get hooked up. Actually not too bad really. I think those tractors that shut down if you get off the seat would be aggravating. But then again safety is a good thing.

If I'm not mistaken, the owners manual for the B2782 simply calls for 30wt motor oil to be used on that chain. I keep some in a pump oil can with a long slender snout that reaches in under the shroud. That oil is pretty thick in cold weather, and coats and stays put pretty well.
