Hi Everyone - Am putting my snow blower away for the season and dutifully going
through maintenance procedures. On page 21 of the manual it says "Change the
oil in the gearbox and in the reduction box once a year". It then has a nice diagram
(figure 11) of the location of plugs and all makes sense. Except the narrative makes
it sound like there is a separate gearbox and reduction box, and there is nothing in
the manual that shows diagrams of anything other than the one box that sits at the
center of the auger shaft. So are the "gearbox" and "reduction box" actually two
separate things? Or is this just poor grammar and they are both within the same
housing shown in figure 11?

thanks.

If you read your tractor's manual it will also tell you to change your antifreeze and hoses every year. I personally wouldn't worry about changing the gear box oil every year. Unless you had an extraordinary snow season and were running the blower 24/7 or doing commercial work.

I've owned the snow blower since 2012 but had a couple winters where I didn't use it all and a couple winters used it maybe twice. This past winter we had lots of snow here in central ND so it got a bit of a workout. So since the gear box lube has not been changed since new would that make a difference in thinking - or no?

I think it's prudent to change it every 5 years. Oil breaks down, even when not in use, due to temperature fluctuations and moisture build up.

I changed the oil in mine. I blew 21 times this season. Thats 21 hours in my situation. The oil looked fine, and it only took a few minutes. As for the "reduction box", I don't of one.

I did pull the cover off and tightened the deflection in the chain. It was slightly more than the 1/16" allowed by the manual.

On my 10 year old B2782 blower,I never get around to changing the gearbox oil until time to install for winter.
I almost always find the gearlube is a little milkey.
My chain also needs a little adjustment as well.
My useage is similar to Grouse09
Good Luck!
