blew a hydro hose on my backhoe tonight, wondering if it was just a bad hose or something i did. I was tearing through a root when it happened.
i think it will be more of a pain to send it to the shop then if i just fix it.

any thoughts?

Depending on the fluid loss, you will need some more. Hoses are easy to change with the right tools.

I doubt it was something you did, unless you physically damaged the hose material while ripping out a stump or hanging the hose up on an obstruction. The safeties in the system should keep the pressure below the hose pressure rateings. That being said, hoses do flex and wear out, but I would not think this likley at only 53 hours. Where did the hose fail, middle or end? Could have been a production flaw in the hose, could have been a bad crimp/assembly of a hose end. Do you have a pressure gauge on the backhoe circuit? That will tell you if your safety valve or valves are set correctly. If they are set correctly, it is probably just a production flaw. At only 53 hours, any chance of a warranty replacement hose from the dealer/manufacturer?

hose "split" about 6 inches from any coupler, hose went to curling cylinder on bh. blew out under use. tractor was bought as a tlb from kubota in april, i think.

Do you have any accessory hydraulics such as a grapple on your loader?

Reason I ask is that there is a caution in an instruction I got with a W.R. Long kit warning that any added hydraulic system plumbed downline of a backhoe may cause excessive pressures in the backhoe valve and or hoses. Although it doesn't say why I assume it means that it would be possible to apply line operating pressure to parts of the valve not designed to hold so much, the return circuit which would normally not be subject to the high side pressure.

It's all pretty mysterious to me so during the install of that kit I realized that I had no idea whether a 'power beyond' outlet is high side or low side, and it seems to me that it could be either depending on which side of a valve is connected to the source pump output.

But that's how stupid I am about this stuff. It may have nothing to do with your blown hose but it should engender some corrective statement that'll help us both. (instead of "learn by doing" make "learn by fishing" your safer course to enlightenment :) )

The thing about hoses is they blow. I had one on the Kubota bucket curl blow with a huge gyser when I quick dropped a full bucket. Had done the exact same thing for 6 years with no problem and whammo! A major bucket line blew on my Ford when it was new to me. Shot fluid out like a rocket when it blew (max lift - naturally) and continued to spew as the FEL dropped. That one scared me as the 2000+ psi fluid went right past my head. It got new hoses the next day - any hose that was routed near me is now new.

If kubota is making all it's hydro hoses like it makes it power steering (will-fail) hoses.. then i expect this to be a common type of thread here in this forum.

I expect hoses to fail every now and then.. I don't expect them to 'need' to be replaced at oil change intervals though...(wink)

That orange japanese rubber must be made in china or something (double wink )

My Kubota has about 240 hours on it and I have blown three of the loader hoses - I think the first one went at about 75 hours. I had new ones made at a local place that makes some serious stuff (for very big equipment). I noticed that their hose seems much stronger than those that I replaced. My guess is that the new hoses will last much longer than the stock Kubota ones.
