Forgive my ignorance on this topic. I've read in various posts here that the B3030 does not have a foot clutch, but instead has a had operated electric or hydraulic (can't remember which) clutch. Henro has voiced concerns about operating a PHD with this type clutch, and I agree with him wholeheartedly. My question is for those members that have had a chance to use their B3030's already, especially with a rotary cutter. How well does the new-fangled clutch work with heavy 3ph attachments like the rotary cutter, a tiller, etc?

Sorry, I try to practice the motto of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" and I feel like Kubota tried fixing something that wasn't broke with this hand clutch. Having no hands-on experience with one though, I could be completely off-base.

Just thought I'd bump this one up to the top of the heap and see if it gets some replies - I'm wondering about the clutch setup on the Bxx30 as well. Anyone have some thoughts, especially concerning PHD use?

I have only used a 5' brush-cutter so far, but have experienced absolutely no problem. I only engage/disengage at idle.

Cart99:

Thanks for the reply. Any chance you could take the time for a brief description of how the clutch system works on your 3030? Is there a hand clutch that can be used to "feather" the PTO? If so, is it mechanical, electric, hydraulic? So many questions, so little "planet time". /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Thanks, John D.

OBTW - I'd love to see a pic of the grapple - sounds like just the ticket for someone I know - thanks.

Same here, engage at idle in one smooth motion. The dealer has informed me that it's a hydraulic multi plate(9 plates ?) system that will last years. It is very quiet and it doe's shift smooth. 12 hours so far and my left leg is still operating a pedel thats not there

There's no feathering possible, the lever is essentially a light switch...it's either on or it's off. There have been several posts in the past that if you plan to do things like run a post-hole digger or something else where a greater degree of control over the rear PTO is required, you'd actually be better off with a B7800 versus the B3030. I have two helpful neighbors that have clutch tractors and post-hole diggers, so I wasn't concerned about this.

Always happy to show off the ATI/Messick's Grapple

I use a 5' brush hog to cut my 7 acres of imperial whitetail clover food plots and weeds that seem to grow 6' tall. It works well for this. I don't know how it works, but it does.

More specifically, how well does the independent PTO work while using a post hole digger? Any problems?

I have not had any problems operating my phd with the 2630.
