Hi Fellas,

Having picked up my B3030 yesterday, today I got around to giving it a clean and checking fluids and the like. Having done so I figured at the end of the day I might give it a try with a flail mower on the back. I couldn't wait to try the telescoping arms and ratchet adjustment. Anyway they all went on very nicely, but try as I might I just couldn't get the PTO shaft on to the PTO spline!

Having used a B2410 for the last three year, I know that the two pieces have to be accurately lined up, and that you have to depress the safety button on the shaft to get it to fit. Yes, they parts are the correct sizes.

The problem is that the flail mower blades have stopped in a certain position, and is VERY hard to move from that position, and the PTO spline has stopped in a certain position, and the two don't match! My B2410 used to get around this by having a PTO spline that you could easily turn by hand to the right spot. I can't do this with the 3030 - the spline is seemingly locked in place and unturnable by hand. I tried various combination of gearbox settings/pto settings/engine on or off to see if this was an intentional safety feature but couldn't find a combination that would allow it to turn.

Given I don't yet have a user guide I'm at a bit of a loss. Is this a "feature"? Will the PTO spline turn by hand at all? Will it free up when it's had some use maybe? (I don't think the previous owner ever ran the PTO) Have I got a duff one?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks,

Simon

BTW the PTO does work - jsut can't yet get an implement on it!

Right, answered my own question now.

Inspiration came to me, and I checked what happens at the rear PTO if you select the mid PTO with the lever, and hey ho, the rear will spin enough to line up the splines, and vice versa for the mid PTO (select the rear one).

I trust this is the way it's supposed to be?

I've never gotten this far with mine, since its generally easier for me to slightly turn the implement shaft to get them lined up. I'll keep this in mind though. How are you liking the telescoping arms? My past two tractors did not have them, and i find them to be the best thing since sliced bread!:)

Today most PTO's all have brakes on them to slow them down faster when stopping for safety. I hadn't had this problem yet but you got though it quite well!

Yes, this is the way I've done it with my B3030 when I needed a bit of movement and the implement was stubborn. I believe I read that somewhere on these forums a while back. It's come in handy a few times.
