Tractor
Kubota B3030
I will be buying the 3030 real soon. I need a FEL, backhoe and a chipper. The salesman alluded to a new Woods backhoe being available in the near future for the 3030. There was alot of information coming at me so I may have gotten this wrong. If there is a Woods backhoe available in the spring should I purchase the tractor, and FEL now and wait for the Woods or is there no real advantage to the woods vs the Kubota?

One other question, do any of these backhoes come with a gripping jaw of some sort? I don't know the name for this but I have seen them. It would be great for grabbing brush etc..

Thanks
Ken

This is probably what they were referring to. It even has the extra thumb. Looks very nice.

The thumb is a must have. I was using a buddies trackhoe this past weekend and once I got the hang of using the thumb it was pretty slick. I have a Woods hoe on my B7610 and will be gettina the mechanical thumb welded on over the winter.

I had a customer ask me about this new hoe a few days ago. I dug up some info - then lost his phone number. The concequences of a messy desk I guess.

My opinion is that the new hoes are going to be worth the wait. If you compare specs againt the current line there is a pretty fair difference. Woods also measued the new ones at a lower (more realistic) hydraulic preasure - don't overlook that - it tended to overstate the capacity of the older implements.

Here is what you can do with a 'hoe thumb. This first pix is about to pick up a large boulder.

This is a rental excavator I used to take down and then later rebuild a boulder retaining wall.

This is after picking up the boulder and tucking it in. I'll swing the cab around and then carry the boulder to the back of the lot.

I forgot to comment on stability. The excavator could carry large boulders in the bucket like that and transport them modest distances and the whole rig was pretty stable. After I got my Kubota with a backhoe, I tried to carry a tree I'd dug up in the bucket some distance. It was not a good ride. It felt very unstable. After that incident, I only carry stuff in the tractor loader bucket, not the 'hoe bucket. But, for picking up and moving things while planted on the outriggers, it works like a charm.

I plan on renting the excavator again for some more boulder work where I have to reach across a stream and pick up some boulders and make yet another wall. I can't get the Kubota in to the spots without tearing up too many trees. While I have it rented, I'll use it again for transporting the boulders. Some boulders my Kubota won't pick up in the loader bucket. I figure some of 'em weigh more than 1,000 pounds.

Nice looking BH. Added features should make to a good second choice over the BH75. Any pricing on the BH80-X yet?

Good stuff. I think that thumb would be invaluable for all of the rock wall rebuilding I have to do. Here in New England we have alot of dry stacked stone walls that get knocked around over the years. Alot of the stones are buried and I will need to pull them out and restack them. The thumb would be ideal. Any idea when these might be available for the B3030?

While I'm here I might as well get some opinions as to pricing.

B3030 w/ turf tires filled, LA403 loader, BH75 backhoe and sundown clamp on forks = $25,414

or

B3030, filled turf tires, LA403 = $18,290

Wallenstein 4" chipper = $2,349

Sund down clamp on forks = $349

I am in Massachusetts but the dealer is not. Any thoughts?

I bought my B3030 at the end of september.
B3030-LA403 FEL and he tossed in the ballast box- and I got the industrial tires. $18,100 and that INCLUDED 6 1/2% sales tax.
