Gentlemen,

I have the opportunity to step up to a slightly larger tractor if I can sell my B5100e. The problem is that I have no idea what price I should put on it. It is in great mechanical shape and good cosmetic shape. The paint is faded, and it has a couple of dings in the sheet metal. It has 688 hours, turf tires and a 4' finishing mower?

Can you give me some direction abut what price I should ask?

Thank you.

Robert

My local dealer just took a B5100E in trade..1978,866 hours, asking $2,995.oo in good shape.

Maybe depending on your location and the season, you might get a better price.

I'm sure the other members are tired of hearing this, but I had a 1981 B5100E.

I had some work to do to my field, and although I'm sure that the little B would have been able to do it, I felt that she didn't deserve to pushed to her limits.

I'm sitting on the couch early Sunday morning, reading our Publi-Sac (bag of flyers we get once a week) and jackpot - a JD flyer. It was mostly ads for lawn tractors but on the last page was a 4100 and a 790. I started toying with the idea of trading my B5100. It took about a week before I broke down and called the JD dealer.

Me: "Yeah, hi. I was thinking about trading in my tractor for a new compact. It's a 1981 B5100E in MINT condition."

Abrupt salesman: "1981 eh, let me check my book." Papers shuffle in the background. I'm picturing a large obnoxious man with the phone tucked unders his chin - one hand playing with the mess of paper on his desk and the other holding a cup of coffee up to his lips. "Oh yes, here it is. Depending on the condition, I can offer you between 800$ and 1200$."

Me: "WHAT?" (giggling)"You've got to be kidding me."

Abrupt Salesmen: "Nope, that's the best I can do."

Me: "Okay, bye."

I called the Kubota dealer who wouldn't give me a price over the phone without first seeing the tractor. He drove 30 miles to my place, looked at the tractor, started it and offered me 3500$ for it with the mid mount mower. I probably would have been able to get 4000 to 4500 for it if I sold it myself, but I wasn't interested in the tribulations of private sales.
