I just blew one of the four hydraulic hoses that attaches to the joystick control valve. While trying to find a replacement I found that it is 3/8 NPT Male on one end and JIC on the other (from the loader manual). I have two questions: Can I safely remove the JIC adapter from the control valve which would allow me to use commonly available 3/8 NPT M to M hose? (The B1630 Loader manual shows these adapters being installed to the valve before the hoses are put on.) or Can I use a 3/8 Female NPT to 3/8 Female JIC which Discount Hydraulic Hose carries for about $2 to accomplish the same purpose? Thanks for any help.:thumbsup:

You can remove the JIC adapter if you relieve all the hydraulic pressure by lowering the bucket and moving the joystick all over while the engine's off.

But if you don't use the JIC connector and switch to NPT, how will you remove the hoses to dismount the FEL? So I think the 3/8" NPT to female JIC would get you the ability to use a standard hose, and still be able to quick disconnect the hose.

Yes, you can remove JIC adapter safely but you'll still need an adapter to give you a swivel to install a 3/8 npt M to M hose....the 3/8 npt M to F swivel adapter would be needed.....

Why not just order the right hose or have one custom made locally??:thumbsup:

I have never taken off the loader and probably won't so quick disconnect is not an issue. Also the custom hose is about $40 and the standard was $10 so I guess I'm a cheapskate. (The adapter is about $4 including shipping so I'm still way ahead of the game.) It looks like you can thread the standard hose into the control valve and then use the quick connect swivel on the other end to complete the job. Any other thoughts?:confused:

About your hose;

you will find that the clearances are so tight you end up taking fittings off to replace fittings-which is why most of the gimbal type valves have male pipe to 45 degree male JIC fittings which provides more room to use wrench flats to remove an old hose and install a new hose.

The fittings are prone to leaking afterwards and you cannot find the leaks right away, just replace the hose and be done with it and you will be better off believe me- they uses thes valves for mining equipment and they are worthless in length of service life and they do leak through the gimbals over time.

Sorry to be a downer but i would rather see you with zero problems and zero leaks

Thanks for the advice! This is an old loader and seems to have adequate clearances but....I'd rather replace a hose than a valve!

just be sure they flush the hose out with water or you do to get rid of any rubber dust from the inner or outer jacket before you put it on as it will cause problems with the valves

Can you ellaborate on what a "Gimbal Type Valve" is......and why they leak through the gimbals over time???.....Is this something new to Hydraulic Valve Design???:confused2:
