B6100 v B1550HST

Hey All,
I'm hoping someone can tell me if there is anything about the B6100 (gear) that is better then the B1550HST. I'm familiar with the B6100, and it's adequate for what I'm doing (strip till and mowing on small vegetable farm). I'm looking for another machine for the same purpose and there is a B1550HST available locally for $3950, I don't have details on the hours yet, but it is a 4wd (1988). As long as it's not "lesser" in any way then the B6100, then I know it will meet my needs. It seems that it has a bit more horsepower then the B6100, but looks a bit smaller in the pictures. Maybe it's not really?? I guess to summarize, does the B6100 have any advantage over the B1550HST or should I expect the B1550HST to be just as good, if not better in every way?

I suspect the B1550 looking smaller is because it's hard to tell scale in the pictures. A friend had his B6000 sitting next to my BX23. His B6000 is smaller than the BX23 in person, but the BX23 looks tiny in pictures, while the B6000 looks larger in pictures. I think it has to do with the tire's width/diameter ratios, and how they compare to the overall size of the tractor. My BX23 has tires which are of a form factor similar to a lawnmower tire, but are actually significantly larger. The B6000 has tires that are slightly taller, but much more narrow, making the B6000 look like it's larger, because it has the same aspect ratio tires, and same tire/tractor chassis ratios as a large tractor.

Best advice is, go look at it and drive it.

A quick trip to Kubota's web site shows that the B6100 is 14hp and the 1550 is 16hp for the hydro model. I think that the 1550 has power steering and has the bevel gear front axle, whereas the 6100 is manual steering and a different type of steering knuckle( birfield style perhaps?) The B6100 is a stout little tractor, but the B1550 is going to give you a few more bells and whistles, not to mention the hydrosat trans. If I were spending the money I'd look hard at the B1550.

Having owned a B6100E for 20 yrs, it is a great little tractor. I traded it in along with another tractor on a new L3130. I was tired of shifting plus needing some of the other features. The net PTO hp will be about the same for both. I would go with the HST.

Thanks guys...I called the shop thursday and they they told me they still had the tractor. I called friday and they said it had been sold weeks ago /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I think that means I supposed to buy a tractor from Dave!
