Hi guys. This is my first post here.

On a B648-A snowthrower and want to check (replace) the auger bearings (14). The bearing cover (3) is attached to the housing by two bolts. I removed those bolts, and the cover is loose, but won't come off.

I tried some gentle force, but don't want to bend or damage anything. Anyone know the secret?

Looks like it should just pop off. Any chance the paint is holding it in place? Do you have both ends and the chain off? If so, can you slide the auger back and forth a bit? It may be esier to take the non-drive end bearing out first.

I can't tell from the picture, but if the bearing has a flange, then it could have one or more allen set screws in it. Most of the equipment that I have worked on that have bearings on a shaft has set screws.

Thanks for the responses. Problem solved............

The inside of the cover has a short hex shaft that fits into the auger bearing. That's what was rusted and sticking. Here's some pix that may help someone else.

Notice the hex shaft is on an eccentric. By relocating the cover holes, a worn auger can be moved closer to the housing (neat idea).
