It's a long story. I'll keep it short.

I've had trouble attaching implements (mower) to this pto for awhile.

Last time we used force (tapping hammer) to get the mower attached. Anyway, it went crooked resulting in a leaking seal and a broken bearing on the pto shaft. When the shaft was pulled out, several pieces of the pto inside were missing from the shaft.

My issue is how can I best 'fish' for the missing gear and various little washers, or the remains thereof, that must be inside the rear end of the tractor.
I've looked for threads discussing this and haven't found anyone with quite the same problem. Should I pull an axle from one side, go through the top cover (hard to reach), or? IOW, what's the easiest way to access and remove the loose 'stuff' inside the tranny?

I'm trying to avoid tearing down any more than is necessary to replace the pto shaft and seal and about 12 other parts that were part of the pto shaft mechanism.

I think the damage is only to the pto, fwiw, as tractor ran smoothly and quietly after pto shaft damage.

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Can’t give advice on what to take apart but would suggest disassembly to the point you can see all. Might make the rebuild easier too.

Thanks for the input.

Right now the tractor is sitting, waiting for the pto parts.........basically a whole new pto shaft, bearings, etc. I'm hoping to do it all at once, so I am waiting.

I'm thinking of pulling a wheel and opening one side of the differential or rear axle. I'm not sure of the terminology. Problem is that I have never done anything like this before and am hoping to avoid any mistakes of the............." I shouldn't have done it that way" variety.

Is that the pto design that has the one bolt on the end that holds washers, bearings, sleeves, and shims on the shaft? If so, did your bolt break or just backed out?

Right on Ruff.............the pto came out with no bolt in the end and everything missing beyond the spur gear, iow 1 bearing missing along with washers. sleeves and shims.

I've never had an internal problem with this tractor until this self inflicted damage.

You would think they would at least use a threadlocker of some sort on this design.

Yes, I don't know how that happened. I've seen a lot of Kubota bolts with brass finish and white on the threads fwiw. In fact, always have been impressed by the quality of the nuts and bolts on this '92 model tractor.
Back to my issue: Took off seat and a few other things to get to top of differential, but it looks like there are 2 bolts that are blocked and would seem to require splitting the tractor...............starting to understand what that is. But then I had the thought of taking of mid pto cover plate from below and see what I can do there. That's where we're at now.

l continue to study this without further action.

Right now I'm thinking of removing the left rear axle to look for the missing pieces from my rear pto assembly. Only other choice seems to be splitting the tractor so I can open top of 'case' for same reason.
What i'm wondering is: Can I remove tire and fender and then go directly to separating axle from center housing, or wheel I need to pull off brake assembly etc prior to removing the axle?
I am looking for someone who can enlighten me as to the best way to go. I need to get any loose pieces of the pto out of the case and any input from someone with prior experience would be appreciated.
