It's a long story. I'll keep it short.
I've had trouble attaching implements (mower) to this pto for awhile.
Last time we used force (tapping hammer) to get the mower attached. Anyway, it went crooked resulting in a leaking seal and a broken bearing on the pto shaft. When the shaft was pulled out, several pieces of the pto inside were missing from the shaft.
My issue is how can I best 'fish' for the missing gear and various little washers, or the remains thereof, that must be inside the rear end of the tractor.
I've looked for threads discussing this and haven't found anyone with quite the same problem. Should I pull an axle from one side, go through the top cover (hard to reach), or? IOW, what's the easiest way to access and remove the loose 'stuff' inside the tranny?
I'm trying to avoid tearing down any more than is necessary to replace the pto shaft and seal and about 12 other parts that were part of the pto shaft mechanism.
I think the damage is only to the pto, fwiw, as tractor ran smoothly and quietly after pto shaft damage.
Thanks for any thoughts on this.
