Greeting All;
Some time ago I posted a note explaining I had an over heating problem with my B7100. When I finally got around to taking out the rad and the oil cooler I could see why the fan was only running intermittently. It seems as if my tractor has a water pump and thermostat instead of the traditional themosuction setup. If you look at the first photo you'll see that this engine does indeed have atwo belt set up. One goes from the alternator to the double idler pulley. The second belt runs from the idler to the crankshaft pulley and back up to the fan pulley which is bolted on to the front of what appears to me to be a water pump and then back up to the idler.
I should mention that this tractor has a cab with a roof mounted heater and fan. I haven't seen it hooked up, but it appears that two hoses run from the engine to the cab-one feed, one return and that the flow of water is powered by the pump and controlled somewhat by the thermostat.
The bearings in the fan look like they gave up the ghost a real long time ago and probably the last two owners had no idea. You can see in the one photo that after the bearing gave up the impellors were able to rub up against the inside housing of the pump and from what I can see wore off about 3/8". When I first removed the rad I saw some metal paste inside the lower hose opening.
Now for a couple of questions. Does anyone else out there have a set up like this? The tractor is a "early" model,early 80's,4wd HST. My local dealer tells me that sometimes a double pulley would be installed if a heavy duty alternator was installed, 40-45 amp instead of the standard 15. The pump is the same colour as the engine and is perfectly mated to it.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I would like to replace the pump and get up and running. My local dealer seems pretty disinterested and I'm hoping the vast experiences of the member ship here will point me in the right direction.
Cheers, Erik
