My first thought was an add-on hydraulic pump... and looking at the other pics confirms it. Looks like it runs the blade. It would appear to be factory from the way it fits. Not sure why they did that and not a front PTO pump... unless that pump would be in the way of the cylinders for the blade. Interesting to be sure. Somewhere maybe there is a parts manual for that b205 blade.

B7100 mystery box - what is "creeping speed" on transmission

I have a B7100D 6 speed manual trans with a hydraulic blade.

There is a mystery box mounted on top of my normal transmission that feeds the blade and has a lever on the side. It also has a diagram showing various combinations of "creeping speeds" vs. High Low settings.

I assume that this means the lever works in conjunction with the High-Low lever somehow.

Does anyone know what this mystery box is called and what it does?

It seems that it not only feeds hydraulics to the blade, but also affects my transmission gears.

I can not find any mention of this option in any Kubota manual. But, it looks like a genuine Kubota part.

Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

Re: B7100 mystery box - what is "creeping speed" on transmission

I posted on your other thread that I believed it was an add-on PTO pump. If it also affects your gears maybe it is also an additional split-range tranny somehow?

So you would have
LO - hi/lo
HI - hi/lo

(assuming it has two positions)

This would give you 9 fwd gears and 3 reverse. Guess you will have to play with it.

Does it have any kind of part number on it?

Re: B7100 mystery box - what is "creeping speed" on transmission

thanks Charlz. I think you are right.

But, let me ask about PTO pumps. Why is it necessary? Doesnt the tractor already have an internal hydraulic pump to drive the 3pt hitch? Why is another pump necessary? Is it that the blade requires more pressure or something than the system is desfigned for?

And why would Kubota mix the functions... That is why have an add-on component that is a pump and a transmission gear modifier?

Also I failed to say before.. the lever on the mystery box has 3 positions. I will play with it some more to see if I can observe the differences.

I was just hoping that someone out there would have seen this before, know its real Kuboto part name, and maybe even refer me to a owners manual of sorts.

It seems that my first tractor has a rare part... just my luck.

thanks again

p.s. since I posted this in the wrong forum by mistake, is there a way to move the thread?

I will go look closer for a part number

PTO pumps are common to run loaders etc. The on-board pump doesn't have very much volume. On my b7100 I have a front pto pump that runs the loader and if I put the backhoe on it has another that goes on the rear pto just to run the hoe.

And why would Kubota mix the functions... That is why have an add-on component that is a pump and a transmission gear modifier?

That I don't know. Perhaps this is something that comes with that particular blade to give you more choices for speeds.

Re: B7100 mystery box - what is "creeping speed" on transmission

Thanks again Charlz for the explanation.

This is my first tractor, and I just jumped in with the B7100. It has turned out to be a good decision, and at these prices I cant get hurt too bad.

Its just another learning experience, and this forum is a real help in answering some basic questions without having to run down to the dealership every day or so.

OK, I know I'm about 3 years late, but I have one too.

Did anyone ever figure out just what it is?

Is it Kubota OEM?

Does it have a name?

Does it have a manual?

Just what is this thing???

Re: B7100 mystery box - what is "creeping speed" on transmission

I started the other post and I have still not found exactly what it is. I want one for mine though, just because it raises the shifting lever up so you don't have to reach down so far to shift. I'm looking into extending my shifter so it is taller. I'll have to experiment with lengths and bends to get it just right, make it so it will go into all gears without hitting the dash or the seat and so I can get on/off without it being in the way.

Re: B7100 mystery box - what is "creeping speed" on transmission

I am sorry to hear that with all of the resources available to this forum that no one knows what this "thing" is.

I printed a picture of it and next time I go into town I am going to visit with the Kubota parts/service people and see if they can figure it out.

My main question, without experimenting, is just how does the additional lever with its 3 positions, affect the original 6 speeds?

I'll let you know when I find out.

/ B7100 trans question #13
I'm just guessing, but I think it might be a creeper transmission adapter to use with a trencher.

If it is a super low creeper gear and it works in reverse I would really like to get my hands on one for snow blowing snowbanks. My B7100 works great on regular snow up o 18" deep but when I try to blow plowed up snowbanks I could really use a much lower speed so I can keep the rpm's up. If anyone has one to sell let me know.

being that this is my first b7100, and I have one of these "things", i am not sure how to compare the gear speed with "normal" but, i can tell you when I put this in "creeping" low, it goes real slooooow.

the decal has a matrix of "creeping" positions vs LO vs HI. still have not figured out what the diagram is trying to describe

Re: B7100 mystery box - what is "creeping speed" on transmission

My Yanmar F24Dhas creeper transmission. It can be used with any of the normal gear ranges. With it enabled, the ground speed drops to anywhere between a crawl and barely creeping. Mine isn't mentioned in the manual either.

I bet that the hydraulics are not affected by the position of the creep lever.

Re: B7100 mystery box - what is "creeping speed" on transmission

yes, you are right, althought the hydraulics for the dozer blade are tapped from this add-on, the speed of the blade movement does not seem to be affected.

i am beginning to think this add-on has nothing to do with the blade except that it is a convenient place to tap the hydraulics.

Is yours mounted on top of the old tranny like mine is?
Does it look similar?

I moved one thread from the General Owning forum to here (as requested), and then merged the two threads so we'd have all this discussion in one place.

And when I moved the one thread, I accidentally moved it to the Kioti forum first, so had to move it again to get it here.

Anyway, that's the reason you see two different titles in this thread.

Re: B7100 mystery box - what is "creeping speed" on transmission

I often 'doze' more dirt/material that I can carry in the bucket. For this it is all about power to the wheels and traction. These really slow gears could help with that. As someone else mentioned, a trencher needs really slow speeds and often a gear transmission just doesn't go low enough. If someone had this set up with a blade and a trencher that extra low range would make perfect sense versus having an HST transmission which may not have been available at the time.

Thanks Bird for moving/merging the thread for me. I'll pay more attention next time. Newbie mistake on my part.

Charlz, the more we discuss this, the more I am beginning to understand the relationship between the blade and the creeper transmission. Thanks for your comments.

Now, if I could just find a manual to decipher that decal with the table matrix on it that describes the various lever settings. I'm sure once I understand it, I'll wonder why I didnt get it the first time.

If it ever quits raining (not complaining, we need it) I am going to go try some lever combinations.
