B7100 trans question

I just found another one for sale on Kijii withthe creeper transmission.
The ad says that this gives the B7100 16 forward gears and 2 reverse gears.

I'll have to admit I dont understand the math on that, since the creeper has 3 positions. I am sure that the manual would prove him right. IF there is a manual.

But, it sounds like the right ballpark....

here is an explanation I got from a parts expert...

It would appear as though your Kubota is fitted with a very rare "transmission range multiplier."

Inside that top mounted case is another"shaft of gears" that function to further reduce/overdrive the final gear ratios and ultimatley effect the ground speed of your B7100.

The factory tractor stick shift is removed and relocated to the auxilliary transmission range multiplier unit. The shifter forks in the multiplier, extend rearward and down to "mesh" with the factory transmission. This configuration allows for shifting through all the normal gears, utilizing the factory shift pattern.

The hydraulic lines that feed to it are not pressurised, rather they are return lines and/or power beyond carry over downline from either a loader control or an auxilliary hydraulic directional control valve.

These auxilliary transmission range multipliers were add on units sold through the parts department and upfitted as a dealer installed item or sold aftermarket.

In low-low-low, you could set the engine rpm at high, hop off the tractor, go in for lunch, and it will only have moved 10 feet!

Now, if I could just find a manual to decipher that decal with the table matrix on it that describes the various lever settings. I'm sure once I understand it, I'll wonder why I didnt get it the first time.

I have an old brochure for a Model BK-7A trencher attachment to fit a B7100. It says that a Kubota creeper drive is required and that it offers four forward speeds. It also says that the trencher drive has three digging speeds - 200, 275 and 400 RPM. Since the B7100 has a transmission driven PTO, maybe some of the gear selections are to change the PTO speed. There is a "3-80" printed at the bottom. I assume that is the date it was printed. There is no other information or photo of the unit. I would think the hydraulic lines might have been to provide lubrication, since the unit sits on top of the regular transmission and above the regular transmission oil.

These hydraulic creeper kits were sold to slow the tractor down to a walk for trenching or other slow speed use. Kubota copied the CharLynn design that also was used on David Brown / Case tractors for vegetables.

The PTO pump provided flow to the motor on the top cover and the power was transmitted via the range transmission to the rear wheels with the speed transmission disengaged.

When finished in slow mode, the motor was disengaged from the range transmission and the tractor would operate normally.

You might be able to get a copy of the instructions from the local Kubota Division office - providing they have one in the archive.

The PTO pump would provide flow to the CharLynn motor on the transmission top cover - this motor was engaged / disengaged by a sliding gear in the range transmission. The speed (front 4 speed) was in neutral so the drive was from the CL motor to the range transmission, final drives and wheels.

The Charlynn motor could turn very slow - the speed was regualted by a flow divider between the pump and the motor so the trencher could take appropriate cuts depending on the soil conditions.

On the vegetable tractors, I have seen them plugging into the tractor auxiliary circuit with a flow divider to regulate the flow (travel speed) - no PTO pump needed. These tractors were used in the 70s-80s in vegetable harvesting where the harvesting crew walked alongside the tractor and did not want to hurry as they looked closely at the crop they were cutting. Most manufacturers had a modular creeper transmission that was added to eliminate the hydraulic drive by the end of the 80s for this application.

Charlz, the more we discuss this, the more I am beginning to understand the relationship between the blade and the creeper transmission. Thanks for your comments.

If it ever quits raining (not complaining, we need it) I am going to go try some lever combinations.

I bought this one for $1500 with a 4 foot shredder. It had a hydraulic leak and the man didn't want to mess with it.

I know this is a old thread but I'm looking at the same tractor with the same odd add on that's pictured. this one powers a front dozer blade.

The seller says that the only problem with the tractor is that it's hard to find "first or reverse" with the shifter. Any idea what that problem could be?

I have seen B7100 with a box like cover where this thing is located. Does the tractor in queston have a mid PTO?
