Is that dangerous with pressures involved or is that only with common rail, I don't claim to be an expert but my mechanic told me that common rail can take your fingers off, and I do realise that the tractor in question is not common rail (do Kubota have any common rail?).

To be serious dangerous, you must have high pressure + large volume of fluid. It is dangerous if you place the end of your finger over the open line in which case you can inject fluid through your skin. While the pressure at the fuel injector of your B7100 is several thousand psi, only small volume of fuel is needed for each stroke of the engine. The procedure suggested to you is a common one and is likely in the owner's manual.

New Kubota's do have a common rail as part of meeting tight emission standards.

On the subject of liquids at high pressures on a tractor, a leak in the hydraulic system needs to be treated with great caution. Here you have both high pressure and volume

YOUR system is NOT a common rail system.. its a mechanical fuel system.. The worst that can happen is u get wet from the fuel.

If the loss of power and smoke issue came on in a matter of seconds I would also consider fuel injector timing. I'm not familiar with your specific pump but if it is driven by a keyed on gear the key could have sheared throwing the timing off , you will still have fuel and compression to ignite it just not at the proper time.
