I have a strange thing happening with my B7100HST. I have had it for a couple months, and I am relativily sure this was not how it worked when I first got it. When you push down the pedal to go forward it reaches a point where it is stiff, and so somewhat easy to maintain this position. But, if you give it a little more pressure, it will move slightly further, make the tractor go faster, and 'lock' into position. This might be a nice 'feature' if there was a way to 'unlock' it without pressing down on the reverse pedal, which makes the tractor 'lerch' as it is actually receiving input to go in reverse.

This has become dangerous, as both me and my 12 year old son use the tractor near the edges of steep hills, and I am afraid that it is going to lock and send one of us over the edge before we can unlock it.

Is this normal operation? Is something wrong with the transmission or pedal? If this is normal, is there a better way to unlock it than pressing the reverse pedal?

The pedal shouldn't behave this way. It should return to neutral as soon as you take your foot off.
I'd check underneath the deck to see if it the linkages are binding or if you have some debris stuck in them.
Also check for a grease zerk and give it a shot of grease.

Also make sure the v shaped centering piece is on the roller. If this comes off it may act like you describe. There is a nut up top on the left and behind the hydro filter that can come loose and allow this to happen.:D :D :D

V shaped centering piece and roller gets the prize.

Due to wear on the roller bar mount, the roller bar was allowed to move far enough away from the v plate to pop off and get wedged. I took the whole thing off, cleaned the roller so that it actually rolled :), and heated up and bent the roller bar just enough so that no matter how far it swayed from side to side, the roller could not slip off the v.

If and when any more wearing occurs, and it pops off again, I will just have to replace the roller bar.

Thanks guys for your help. I'm not sure I would ever have thought to look in that area. I didn't realize that that was how the pedal worked.
