B7200 Broken steering arm advice

Hi Guys
I have a situation where I have broken the steering arm on a B7200 and even still am unsure how it happened. I was using the loader to push brush onto a pile and then was backing and heard a thump- immediately had no steering -

I have a picture here that I'm going to attach to make my situation clear and I'm basicly looking to find out if anybody has performed a repair like this themselves. I've always maintained my own vehicles for the most part and am reasonably handy- viewing my picture, you can see the break as detailed by the red circles- on the back of the steering unit there are 3 bolts that look as though they will allow access to the broken part and the ability to replace the part with a new one. There are seals though so I'm assuming that there'll be fluid in the steering box. I've said enough- anybody have any guidance? Thanks in advance

I’m not familiar with that model of tractor. Having said that, from looking at your picture. The shaft that is broken appears to be going into the steering box. If that is the case, you should IMO take it to the dealer. The shaft probably has a gear on it and the clearances will need to be set after the new shaft and gear is replaced.

Sam, it appears from the picture that the "sector gear shaft" is what's broken. The shop manual for my B2710 shows and tells how to replace it, and how to check clearances to tell whether the steering gear box itself needs replacing, how to adjust it, etc. If my tractor were not in warranty, and I had to replace it, I'd probably do it myself, but I'd really rather not tackle the job without a shop manual.

Thanks for the input guys... It was good to be able to tell them that the "sector gear shaft" was broken Bird- they knew exactly what I was talking about. To tell the rest of the story, this B7200 was actually a loaner unit from the dealer I bought my BX2200 from. I wanted to try one with a loader before deciding whether it was worth $2500 to put one on the BX. I felt terrible since I always take even better care of other people's stuff than my own, and I wasn't really done playing with it. Anyways, I called the dealer and explained how the part had broken and they said that "it was an old tractor" and that they'd pick it up, fix it and even bring it back to me if I wasn't done with it. I don't know if there are rules in this post about advertising, so I'll go as far as to say that my local dealer is taking excellent care of me here in South Central PA and I'll recommend them to anyone in the market for a Kubota. Thanks again guys- I am not a frequent poster as I am very busy with a computer business, but I know where to come when I need a good source of advice.

Sam, your profile says you have 12 acres. With that much land, I am confident you will find many uses for a loader, which ranks right up there with Pampers as one of the great inventions of the 20th century. I used the loader on my BX so much that I decided I needed a much bigger loader, which is one of the primary reasons I traded my BX for a 2910.

I am thinking that although a loader is a great back-saver (I moved a dumptruck load of dirt with this one) from what I read on this board, the loader for the BX may not be enough- I can see that the B7200 is a larger tractor, and it didn't seem too big by any means- took a lot of trips to move what didn't look like a large pile of dirt. I'd say it (B7200) seems a bit tipsy compared to the BX since the BX is closer to the ground. This 7200 has turf tires on like my BX and I'd think it'd be much more effective with the AG tires too. I love the BX w/60" belly mower for mowing and am pleased with it overall- not sure a larger tractor could be as effective for mowing. Originally I was going to buy a JD 455 but after I studied it up and saw that a BX was only $100 more and had 4WD and Cat1- debate was over.

I rely on word of mouth almost exclusively to promote my business- a satisfied customer is the best advertisement I've ever been able to find- and cheaper too. Cheers
