Anybody have a cheapish idea as to how I can get rear hydraulic remotes on my tractor so that I can operate a 3 point log splitter? TIA

I added a single spool valve to the FEL hyd. circuit on my old B7100. Cost about $80 including a couple of QD connectors. I also used the valve to control the power angle cylinders on a FEL plow. It was a lot cheaper than adding rear remotes.

That sounds awesome. Is it easy to do? Where do I buy a single spool valve and QD? Thanks this is all very new to me.

Standard open center tractor hydraulics have the different valves in series. Flow goes to one, then the next, etc. Since you only use one at a time (usually), sharing is not a problem. The FEL valve has a power beyond port which feeds the 3pt hitch. You can connect a valve between the FEL and the 3pt.

However the 7500 may not have enough GPM to run a splitter effectively. My 7100 had no power steering and the one hydraulic system had a GPM of about 3.5. That'd make for really slow cycle times on the splitter. I mean really really slow. Tractordata has yours at a total 7 gpm but if yours had power steering there's a good chance that number is both systems added together. Most CUTS have separate systems for power steering and everything else. PS is typically 3-5 gpm. So if yours has PS, it's separate and that 7 is both added up you may only have about 4 for the FEL, 3pt and splitter.

A gas or electric powered splitter with a two stage pump (for faster cylinder return) is not much more expensive than a 3pt splitter.

Unfortunately, I traded the B7100 years ago so I have no pictures, but this is the valve I used:

Prince Log Splitter Detent Valve | Detent Valves| Northern Tool + Equipment

The cost has gone up quite a bit since then. You might want to shop around for a better price. You can get the QD's at your dealer or any farm store like Tractor Supply.

It required quite a bit of cobbling but basically, I made a mount from a piece of angle iron and bolted it to the FEL valve bracket. I plumbed the new valve in series with the existing FEL valve in the tractor hyd. circuit. I installed the QD's on the new valve output ports and connected hoses to the wood splitter.

In my case, I wanted to use the new valve for the power angle on a FEL plow so I mounted it on the tractor. If your splitter is the only hydraulic implement you plan to use, you can mount the valve on the splitter instead. If it already has a valve, just install the QD's on the tractor FEL valve and connect the hoses.

A word of caution here. I did some research before doing this to make sure no damage would result. I'm not familiar with the B7500 though and can't be sure this will work on your tractor. Perhaps another poster can offer more advice.

I should also add that although this setup worked, the splitter was a bit slow. I don't remember the hydraulic flow rate of the B7100 but it took some time for the 5" bore X 24" stroke splitter cylinder to split a log.

These replies are getting me to consider a gas log splitter more and more. Thought having a 3 point splitter would require one less engine to maintain but not sure if it's worth the effort or expense.

Thanks,
Jay

Bingo.

You will be disappointed with the slow cycle time of a log splitter operated from your tractors hydraulic system.

Rather than spending money to adapt your tractor for use with a three point splitter, the performance of which will disappoint you, put the money toward an engine driven log splitter.
