Hi Y’all.
For the last several years I have been using a 1947 John Deere “M” tractor for stuff around our 5 acre “homestead”. Grading the 150+yards of gravel drive, skidding downed trees out of the woods, etc. We have a very tiny yard, maybe ½ acre that gets taken care of by the old Murray rider. The rest of the “homestead” has been left natural with lots of very old hardwoods.
We recently purchased 45 acres in the next county over (VERY rural). I told the Mrs. that “Auntie M” just wouldn’t be able to handle the duties at “the farm” and we neeeeed to upgrade to a modern tractor with modern hydraulics. The “farm” is mostly wooded. There is a field (I’d say about 8 acres), and a series of small ponds along a creek. These are the areas that I will need to keep up.
Seeing as I am the Webmaster for our local 2-cylinder club (http://www.westga2cyl.com), I looked at the green machines first. I talked with them for several hours about a JD790 4x4 with a FEL. However, we also made a trip by the local Kubota dealer and I found that I really am attracted to the size of the B7510 4x4. I REALLY like the layout of the controls vs the JD. The Deere has six more horses, but the B7510 looks to be half the physical size. Something that I think will come in handy around those ponds. Plus I am kindof turned off by all of the plastic on the Deeres. My “M” didn’t get to be 58 years old sporting a bunch of plastic bodywork.
I have read elsewhere on this board about the L2800, and how it is just slightly bigger than the B7510 unit. I have called just about every dealer with 3 hours driving distance and NONE of them have an L2800 on their yard. Most said they “have them on order”. One dealer said that Kubota has quit making the L2800. Is there any truth to that? I sure would like to take a look at one next to a B7510.
Whichever I get, I plan to have it rigged with a FEL and ag. tires.
I already have a 5’ box and, a 5’ grader blade. I’ll need to get either a 4 or 5 foot brush-hog for that field. Also, should I get a tooth bar for the FEL? I understand they really improve the digging ability of an FEL bucket.
Thanks in advance for your replies to my ramblings
