I am close to purchasing a B7510. I want the 302 FEL and the 60in MMM and a box blade. I am debating about the tires. I like the idea of great traction with the R4s but am afraid to tear up my grass with them. I like the idea of the turfs, but they seem like they would slip in dirt work. Also the rims on the two different tires seem pretty different. The R4s have stem sheilds and seem like a better built rim. Any suggestions or comments?>?

If you are close to buying the B7510, why'd you post the other post about the other machines?

People have reported good results with mowing with R4s. They don't tear the lawn up. You may leave some marks if you turn while the 4x4 is engaged.

I have a 7500 with R4's. Take off the loader while you mow, you will have no problems.

The only difference between the rims is the stem shields. They amount to about $2.00 per rim, but there is no question that if you are using the FEL in a rocky area, they may make all the difference.
If you buy turfs, you can always add chains as needed for dirt work. Still, many prefer the R4s for all-around.

Have you considered bar turf tires? They have more bite than regular turf tires but are easier on the turf than R4s. I have them on my B7610 and I like them pretty well.

jkm,

Preface: I am real picky about my turf. I'm the trophy lawn guy on the block.

When I traded my BX in on a B7610 the dealer had two 7510's (same frame) on his lot. One had turfs, the other had R4's. I drove both of them back to back, doing all kinds of maneuvers and trying to see which would tear up the grass the least.

The conclusion..... Both tires did about the same amount of damage!!

Here's the deal: The only time the tractor tears up the grass is when you are turning sharp. During the turn, the outside edge of the outside front tire bites in and tears up the grass. The R4's have a "bumpy" edge, and leave stutter marks in the grass. The turf tires have a smooth edge and leave an even slice. Pick your poison.

Personally, I went with the R4's and had the dealer's promise that I could switch tires for free if I wanted to within two weeks. I kept the R4's.

In order to keep from trashing my lawn, I have stopped going around my trees in a circle at full lock. This would create a rut in no time. Rather, I make about 4 gentle turns. Kind of hard to explain, but you'll get the idea once you play around with the tractor.

On the other hand, the BX will spin around the tree a full lock and leave no scuffing at all. Something to think about if mowing is your #1 priority.

Good luck.
