B7800 brakes ?

First tractor owner. Cant find a purpose for left and right brakes.Seems
aquard to keep foot on forward pedal and hit one side of brakes.Need
advice. Thanks. Framer

I don't recommend brake steer with any four wheel drive tractor! When you think you do need it for what ever reason the cruise will allow you to use the brakes.

The split brakes are used for steering in certain situations....... muddy, light front end, etc. Once you learn to use them in the right situation, you'll wish your car had them!

I have driven many tractors since the 50's. Used individual rear brakes on all of them until purchasing my 4WD Kubota's. I have never had the need to use rear brakes except as a parking brake. There are occasion's when they are need on steep inclines. Never leave you tractor without the brakes set. The hydrostatic transmission will only hold the tractor in place a short time before it will start to roll.

In those rare situations where I use individual brake for steering, I'll swing my left foot across and use it for the brake - and use my right foot for hydro control.

If you do unlock your brakes and use them for steering, depending on circumstances, you may get better results if you kick it out of 4WD. You'll just have to practice / play with it to see if it does you much good.

The split brakes don't apply as much with the CUTs, especially with 4WD and hydro drive. Once in a while I've been able to use them to get myself out of a sticky situation where I have limited traction, though.
