The plastic headlight bulb sockets deteriorated in the Florida heat. Easy to buy the socket sets but I wanted to convert to LED with more lumens. I figured out an inexpensive but much improved build but in my final testing I crossed the two wires blowing the fuse. No problem....replaced the fuse. for the lights. Turn the ignition key and all 3 dash lights work like normal but will not turn over. Bypassed the solenoid and cranks fine but won't start. Checked all the fuses and cleaned the board. A few years ago the same problem but I was able to replace the $8 relay behind the dash to solve that problem but at that time I could start and run by bypassing the solenoid. Doubt if it's the key. Is it possible I melted a fusible link somewhere? Any other suggestions what to check will be greatly appreciated. I will post my easy, inexpensive changeover to the LEDS once everything is back to normal. Thanks in advance everybody, Hal

Try the usual starter inhibit checks as well, neutral switch, clutch switch, PTO switch, seat switch in case you bumped something.

Thanks, I should have mentioned that I did try the easy stuff first...looks like I''ll be tracing and chasing juice on my next day off. Just can't see any connection (or lack thereof) to blowing the headlight fuse to trashing the start circuit

I downloaded some info from Messicks which might point you in the right direction regarding a fusible link
A caution is that the info I am providing is not applicable to all B7800.
The fusible link is unique in that it is a loop of wire that is plugged into the fuse panel. A sort of in and out style.
You could unplug it and check it for continuity if it is not readily clear it is blown.
Dont just replace it with a piece of wire but buy the part so as to retain the protection it provides.

I was going to install LED headlights on my Pontiac Vibe believing they would be far better that the OEM halogen headlights and then came across a youtube video which made me think it was not worth the effort.

I don't have the wiring diagram but if it is similar to the BX25 then the short may have grounded through the timer relay prior to blowing the fuse. If the timer relay isn't working then current can't get to the fuel solenoid, hence the no start. I suggest you check for voltage at the fuel solenoid.

Headlights draw a lot of amps. What amp fuse did you replace? Was it for just the headlamp circuit or does it supply other circuits too?
Seems like you blew out the headlight fuse, the starter solenoid, and possibly a relay or fuse to the fuel solenoid. That must have been some arc when you crossed the wires. Curious why you were doing the wiring live, rather than disconnecting the battery ground? Not a criticism, just curious to reasoning?
