I have a repair kit for the bucket cylinder on my Kubota B8200 and I'm ready to try my hand at a rebuild. However it's my first try at this and I've been looking at posts here, but my cylinder looks different than what I've seen. I don't see anything to grab to remove the end. There's no holes, circlip or end sticking out. How do I open this bad boy up? image.jpg

Thanks for the help!

that appears from the photo, to be a circlip style cylinder, you usually have to drive the end cap in slightly to get the circlip out.

Thanks Bulldog. Someone over at Orange Tractor said the same thing about the clip. I just needed to remove a few more years worth of gunk to see it. He didn't mention driving in the cap tho. I'll give that a try. It's a bear getting a small screw driver to bite on anything.

Just a hint when reassembling with the new seals: A little bit of STP on the seals will make things easier.

That little bugger is in there tight! I have tried making a some room by carefully tapping on the end of the gland with a bolt/hammer. Nothing. I've destroyed a screw driver, but can't get any purchase to pry it out. Also tried driving a nail under it but that just pushes it around the groove.

Ideas?

I remember grinding a special shape on the end of a punch to get the circlip started. Yes, it was a bugger.

Npalen, do you remember if you pushed in the gland first? There has been some differing opinions on the other forum. One thinks that's what is needed and another who thinks the gland sits on a shoulder and cannot be driven in. I have applied a great deal of force and have yet to see a hint of movement. Wondering if there is any point to continuing on that path or if I need to just concentrate on getting under that clip.

BTW... Do you make those guitars? They are beautiful!

Andy, I vaguely recall a tapered seat inside the cylinder bore that limits how far the gland can go into the bore. I would guess that you've reached that point and just need to get the clip out. Bear in mind that my loader is the BF350 on a B9200 which might be a little different setup than your B8200. I'm guessing yours is the BF300 loader?

Yes, I've built 95 Palen Archtops since 1999. Takes about 100 hours each. They are finished with nitro cellulose lacquer. Thanks for asking!

Edit: I found the 1/8" pin punch that I used to get under the clip. The tip is ground at a very sharp angle of about 60 degrees or more. I recall having to actually drive the punch tip in under the end of the clip to get it started up and out. Just be sure that any resulting burr is removed before installing the new seals. Makes me wonder what the special removal tool looks like if there is one.

Edit II: Should mention that the punch end was ground to a sharp bevel rather than a point like a center punch.
