MF65 Mk2
Hi All,
I am changing the water pump on my MF65Mk2 and while putting the pump back on i found a crack in the backing plate that creates the seal between the pump body and the engine at the impeller end. I don't believe all models have this plate as my manual doesn't mention it. I tried having the crack soldered but it is too thin so i'll have to order a new one. Problem is that this plate is a rare part and i am struggling to find one but i can get one from Holland. Has anyone any experience in making their own plate and would it have to be made of copper or brass. I suppose galvanised steel would get eaten by the antifreeze mix?

I'm in a bit of a rush because i've got hay needs making and guess what - the weather has finally come good!

Thanks

How about posting a picture of this plate. I googled MF 65 water pumps and came up with more than one. I saw a few on ebay. One for around $59 which included a plate and gasket.

My 135 had a phenolic plate that was broken, the Agco replacement was a stainless steel one. I'd just make a new one out of SS.

Thanks for the advice - i went to my local metal shop and they made me a plate for €10 out od stainless. I just fitted it (the bolts on those water pumps are a pain to get in and i think the alloy threads must be really soft. I hope it creates a seal. I refitted the cleaned out rad and half the new hoses and clips. i'll finish tomorrow. Fingers crossed it works. Cheers

I had a bit of an issue fitting the new pump and I had to take it all off again. On the second time fitting , i found it easier to remove all the front panels (including air filter) and then the rad is alot easier to get at and remove as well. Then it is easier to refit the water pump as you can look straight at is and also remove the thermostat bypass elbow as this gets in the way when you are fitting the pump (and the bypass hose and elbow can be fitted after the pump is tightened up).
