2008 Kubota L3940HSTC
Love my L3940HSTC especially the cab keeps dust and heat out. I am thinking to add a backhoe attachement but realized Kubota does not have such an option (b/c cab). Is there any backhoe implement available? Thanks.

Welcome to TBN:D

You can see if Woods has one that would fit, they are very popular.

Also may want to check out Bradco and Bush Hog. Bradco, in particular, has reputation for making rugged, dependable backhoes. Woods is probably most popular, though, and makes good equipment. Be prepared to make a major withdrawal from the piggy bank... new BH will likely run $7k or more.

The kubota BH92 fits the cab model.

Kubota does build one for that tractor. It is not a great thing for trenching but it does work well. Trenching is difficult with a cab tractor!!!!!!!!

Thanks all for suggestions. My Kubota dealer told me last November that the newly released BH92 would fit only newer 2010 grand 40-3 series. He said he did not know why but that was according to Kubota's release. He also stated none of those 3rd party would fit. Will check with him again today.

I'd double check the "none of those 3rd party..." comment. I think some folks on TBN have actually posted pics of their backhoes mounted on Grand L cab tractors and, if you go to the Woods website, their BH90x brochure even shows photos of the backhoe on a Kubota cab tractor. In fairness, though, there can be a trade-off if you do that. The backhoe has to be mounted far enough back so there is room for the backhoe operator to sit and operate the controls. That means the whole backhoe may jut further out beyond the rear axle, which is not a good thing. I'm not putting down those 3rd party backhoes... they are good units and they have probably been engineered with this in mind, but this is something to be aware of. I must admit the Woods installation looks pretty good to me in that brochure.

That's true. But to clarify, the 'not a good thing' mostly applies to carrying the BH. You do have to be mindful that you have a lot of weight hanging several feet off back there, and you'll need to keep your transport speed down especially over rough terrain.

In terms of using the BH though, there isn't a drawback because (used properly) the stabilizers should be taking the weight off the rear tires/axles. The extra length of the BH platform is actually a slight advantage here, because the tractor weight further away (from the stabilizers) provides more leverage to counterbalance the BH action. Most of the additional stress is on the BH stabilizers and subframe, which should be designed to handle it, not on the tractor.

Generally agree regarding operation... the moment of force should be around the stabs when deployed in normal conditions and operated properly. I was thinking more about the comments of some owners reporting clearance and departure angle issues with their non-OEM backhoes, but, as noted, some of the newer designs seem to be better integrated to the tractor.

Good point, I forgot about that.

The Woods 'X' hoes try to account for this, to some extent. The tail of the operator platform and lower boom are angled upward to provide a (spec) departure angle of 15°.

Conventional wisdom says I should have a greater likelihood of clearance problems in this area, but surprisingly enough the only thing I've ever "bottomed out" when encountering an acute change in slope is the bottom of my (stowed) bucket.
