Can anyone tell me if the boom on their backhoe gradually lowers on it's own after it is placed in the most upright position?

This lowering occurs both when the tractor is running and when it is turned off...

I really appreciate all the support this site have provided while I work the kink's out of a crate JM 254.

Thank You.

Hi..I don't know about the others machines,But My Backhoe stays in position as long as I don't move the levers. Now if the machine is off, & I put the locking pin in the "Boom" frame and after a day or two it is to tight to remove without running the pump and raising the boom. some leakdown is always expected but I would expect it to stay for a long time without moving. I have the LW-6 Chinese hoe. now as a reminder Do not put the pin in the hole to keep it while your using the hoe..It will crush the steel line on the boom cylinder. so it's been reported!. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I have a brand new Bradco 3265 Backhoe and the boom "leaks" down a few inches after 10-12 hours of sitting idle. I think this is somewhat normal for just about any Hydraulic cylinder - what is happening is that the internal o-ring on the piston inside the cylinder allows a small amount of fluid to leak past it from the side that has the pressure on it to the side with "vacuum" on it.

The only time my backhoe on the Jepe 354 seems to leak down is when I transport it on the trailer a few miles. It did leak down a little at first, but that was due to a leak at the control spool. I have almost come to the conclusion that all things hydraulic, leak /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif, no matter how hard you try and keep things tight. I just keep extra fluid handy and dig on. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi there,
Yes, I think they all do. It is well known that one should not go underneath a car that is jacked up with a hydraulic jack, vehicles should be lowered onto axal stands.
All the best Andy
