Does anyone have info on adapting a small backhoe bucket on to a FEL to allow for light trenching. I would like to make an attachment that would have the small bucket 12-18" facing the tractor and when you would dump the bucket (if you had the loader bucket on) this in turn would curl the bucket towards the tractor. I would like to adapt this to the quicktach loader. I think with this mod you wouldn't be able to curl the bucket because it would be rigid. Any ideas?

Saw one of those on the Struck.com site. They had it mounted on a Magnatrack. As I recall, they have a clip of it working. If my mind has not competely gone, I am fairly sure I saw one on a Bobcat at Bobcat.com. You could get some ideas from these sites.

This a good idea but it will be hard on your loader. Loaders are built to push and not pull. Another idea would be to construct a bucket to the 3pt hitch and use a hydraulic top link to open and close the bucket.

I second Spencer's recommendation of Lackender.

I have his extenda-hoe on the front of my Power Trac 1845.
It would be worth a call to Randy Lackender to see if he has attached his boom(s) and bucket(s) to FEL connections. He may already have exactly what you want, or can tell you pros and cons.

If you pose your question in the Yanmar forum, I'm sure Yanmar guru Roger_Scotty would be happy to post a picture of his "halfback hoe", which appears to be exactly what you are describing.

Re: Backhoe bucket on loader...EUREKA

I spoke to Randy Lackender and he said his hoes can go on a CUT loader. This is the greatest news since the invention of the wheel. All other hoes are now irrelevant to me.

All you need to do is put a skid steer attachment plate on your loader arms. If I were buying new, I would install the ATI attachment and get an ATI bucket instead of the tractor manufacturer's bucket. If you already have a bucket you like, you can put a Kasco Unihitch on your loader arms and an adapter on your current bucket.

This now opens up the whole world of skidsteer attachments for use on your loader arms. Up till now, I didn't know it included hoes. This information comes from the pioneering efforts of Charlie Iliff and the other Power Trac adventurers.

Lackender has 4 hoes, starting at below $1000. He recommends his new HyraSwing model for CUT's because you can swing the boom left and right to dump the dirt from the bucket. This is a new model with an introductory price of $2600. Bye, bye $5000-$8000 Woods and Bradco hoe fantasies (for me, at least). He has installed one so far on a Boomer.

There are some negatives with a hoe on a CUT FEL, mainly visibility over the hood into the hole. But get this for trenching: all you have to do is drive the tractor backwards. No more getting off and on to move and reposition a backhoe.

Maybe this doesnt have all the digging power of a backhoe, but the front hoe is much more sensible for someone like me who just wants to do some trenching, rock and stump picking, and hole digging for planting things. The price is phenomenal. Plus 60 second on/off, compared to the 45 minute Herculean struggles people report here with subframe and 3ph backhoes. When it's stored, the front hoe just lies 7' on the floor waiting to be attached in a few second maneuver.

Randy says he will be taking the price of the Hydraswing hoe over $3000 this summer after he gets some more initial installs.

Whoever gets one of these next week please file a full report so that the the rest of chickens can then morph into lemmings.

The uses you state are exactly what I want to do. I am alittle confused on the bobcat attachments. I would really like to use the quick attach format my loader bucket uses. All it consists of are some hooks and knobs drilled for pin holes. It seems for an experienced welder it should be easy to duplicate.

Re: Backhoe bucket on loader...EUREKA

Twanger, I see you just got a new 4310. Congrats, great machine. JD has its own "quick attach" system to attach its fel arms to its bucket. But the JD system is different from and incompatible with the universal bobcat "quick attach" system.

There is no reason you could't put a bobcat system on your JD fel arms and bucket. That's what the Kasco Unihitch does. I suppose if you were good with welding and metal fabrication and had all the dimensions, you could do it yourself. Then, you could attach to your fel arms to your JD bucket or to any of the many bobcat implements such as hydraulic augurs, trenchers, tree huggers and whatever. The new news to me was that there was a hoe available. I see that Northern Tool carries what looks to be the Lackender hoe.
