Has anyone added a filter to their LW-6 Backhoe? I would like to add an in-line filer but I’m not sure what line to install it on. Also with metric fittings and hoses I’m not sure where to get the parts. Any information or pictures would be greatly appreciated

i´d added a suction-filter in the oiltank on my lw-6. all you need is a 1/2" connector, teflon, and the filter. all thogether for ~ $ 12-15. prefer filters with bypass wich open when filter is closed this prevent damage the pump. there are also magnetic-filters availible wich are a better choise.

do not forget to change / inspect the filter in future!

please see attached picture.

if you put a inline filter on the suction side make sure it is no smaller than 150 micron or you can starve the hydraulic pump and burn it up.

Also, you can install a vacuum gauge between the filter and the pump suction, and change the filter ~20".

Yes, I have. Although I'm using a Prince pump, the routing would be the same. I also added a 0-60 psig gauge upstream of the filter, and a thermometer downstream. Since it is installed on the return line, I used schedule 40 3/4" black pipe & fittings, and #12 Aeroquip reuseable fittings. No additional hose was needed, in fact I had to remove 12" from the return line.

Bob which model of the Prince pump are you using? GPM? Thanks

It's the HC-7A, 7gpm.

Many thanks Bob, does it work well? The reason I ask is that someone told me that the Hydraulic pump supplied by Jinma is 11 GPM. If it works well for you that is what I will get.
Thanks again for quick response.

Bob:

I have never seen the LW-6, 7, or 8s up close and I have a question:
it seems that the main joystick controls keep you from operating the
2 valves on each joystick simultaneously. From your photo this seems
due to the X-shaped cutout in the control panel cover. It that your
experience? I have never operated a hoe with this apparent limitation.

Also, since you installed a thermometer, what is a typical and max
temp you see after operating the hoe for a while?

I must have talked to the same guy you did and I bought the 11gpm model. Well that turned out to be a BIG mistake; too violent when running at r/m's; too much juice! Considered a flow control valve, but that would cause too much heat, so I bought the HC-7A 7gpm unit. I belive the OEM pump is around 6+gpm. It works great. BTW, I have an 11gpm unit for sale-only has 15 minutes of time on it.

First; I don't think you can make compound valve movements with the same valve handle, but I do using two separate handles/functions. BIGGKIDD has a LW-7 on the CTOA site and he shows where he cut out the X's with a hole saw (nice job too), but I didn't hear any feedback on how it works.
Second; Depending greatly on ambient conditions, it will get up to 192°F after working it very hard for ½ an hour. Still well within the limits of the Rykon AW32 oil.
