I am considering a backhoe attachment for my JD 790 (fel, ballast in rear indus. tires). I would welcome any suggestions or warnings from anyone who has an opinion.
Why do some units have a subframe and others not?
Do I need an independent pto driven hydro pump/resivior?
Are hydrolics on tractor suffiecent?
Should I stick with J.D. brand? Are others brands (great bend, woods, etc.) something to avoid.
Who makes the J.D. attachment.
What hydrolic connection configuration is best.
Any advice/comments are welcome (short of selling my tractor and buying orange or blue)
Thanks!

I just got back from Christmas Shopping for my wife, didn't find the right gift, but did see a John Deere 4200 with a Great Bend backhoe behind a pickup going down the interstate. I have a JD790 and have been thinking of a backhoe also. Does anyone know about the Great Bend Unit. Price? I checked our their web site and it appears a good fit. Thanks for any thoughts. No I'm not considering it for a gift for my wife.

I have a Great Bend 260 loader on my 4300 and it's built like a tank. If there quality is the same on back hoes I would not be afraid of them.

On another post I believe some one said that some or all of the jd back hoes are made by Great Bend.

FRJ,
Take a look at this posted by JMIII yesterday, it should answer your question about Great Bend and JD BH's. I have a 750 with JD7 BH with subframe that runs fine off my tractors hydraulics.I think the subframe is for load distribution.I have read of (don't know if true, as have not seen) tractors with 3pt mount BH's snapping the tractor in half.Just my opinion.

I've got the 7 backhoe with subframe and rear hydraulic outlets. Hookup is a breeze, 5 minutes on and off. Bucket and dipperstick power are fine but sideswing power is kinda weak. Your work area on a hoe this size is limited, so you'll move the tractor a lot. For occasional use around my property it's grat, particularly the quick hookup and detach.
