Looking at the modifications, what occurs to me is that none of them would have added appreciably to the manufacturing cost. On the one hand that means that we shouldn't be surprised if Jinma gets their act together and starts producing a much better product; on the other it's discouraging that they could produce a better product but don't.

There is a market for cheap backhoes and the Chinese know this. I'll speculate that the demographic is mostly first time buyers on fixed income with limited experience and/or lower tier wage earners. I wouldn't look for Jinma to implement any significant design changes/improvements to their backhoes any time soon.
