Backhoe KB2375 \"BROKE\"

I was out digging up stumps today and broke the pin that goes thru the lower Boom Cylinder. Unfortunately when the pin snapped the Boom Cylinder pulled the pin back and bent the Swing Frame Assembly. The Eye on the end of the Boom Cylinder is also bent. The pin snapped right at the bolt hole that holds the pin in (weakest link). I really like this tractor (DK35creeper, KB2375 Backhoe, 1450 loader) and haven’t had any problems since I got it in October except this. I’m hoping this is covered under Warranty. I only have 50 hours on it most of them digging up my yard. At the time the PIN broke I was pulling up a 10” stump (small). I can’t believe it broke. I pulled up many other stumps with it, a lot of them much bigger.

Has anyone had this kind of problem with any backhoe, or did I just put to much pressure on it? The tractor was running at 2100 rpm’s and I grease the fitting every time I use it.

Its the first problem of that nature that I have read about.
Sounds like a bad pin to me.
My opinion is the backhoe should hit the relief valve to protect itself before something breaks.

I have to agree with Vince, sounds like a defective pin, especially since you had alread done harder stumps, and the relief valve should have stopped before a good pin would have been subjected to breaking forces. I don't know, but warranty should take care of a problem where the pin was defective. Good luck and let us know what your dealer says. John

I have seen hoes do that and it can either be a defective pin or the relief not working properly.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be covered under warranty as long as you are within the warranty period. It also sounds to me like a bad pin. You are the first to have this problem that i have heard of.

Sometimes I like being first but not this time. Taking the Backhoe to the dealer today. Only time will tell..

Now, I took a look at your bh on the web site, so I've not seen your bh model in person and it could be that there is a design flaw where there isn't enough steel in the swing mechanism and the pins are not large enough. Does your boom have a transport lock? If so, was it delivered with the lock engaged? Do you use it? If it doesn't have one, have one made. It would seem that in order to bend the swing mechanism and the eye on the lower side of the cylinder, that there would have to be more dipper/ boom force applied than what your bh specs out at, unless the swing mechanism and pins and cylinder and eye are undersized for the psi. What I mean is if a pin failed, it should sheer where the boom flange mates up with your eye, this would take a tremendous amount of pressure or a bad pin. It could be that your eye on the cylinder doesn't extend wide enough to mate up with the adjoining frame (ie: there is a 1" gap on both sides of the cylinder. eye or no solid spacers), consequently, allowing the pin to bend and "pull or stretch" from the pin socket and brake at the pre drilled hole and damage your swing mechanism. we did receive a service bulletin on the kb2375 backhoe
"cerrent design of the dipperstick cylinder pin may allow pin to break and damage dipperstick cylinder support"
This should be under warranty without question!
