Ok guys-got the hydraulics up and running-thanks very much for the info. Now I am trying to figure the best way to mount it.The backhoe is a John Deere 7 and it has the long legs that go up under the tractor to about directly below the front end loader mounts.Should be fairly easy to get some 1/2 plate down to the boltholes of the backhoe legs from the loader mounts for the front. As far as I can tell though,it looks like I am going to have to use the top link and the drawbar mount for the back supports.Think this will be ok?There is no possible way to get anything over the rear axle on this tractor that I can see.

Mike, here's a post (lengthy) on mounting a BH. My BH (Ford 758B) has a subframe mount but the rear attachment points were on the 3pt pins on the tractor axle housing. I was worried that I might somehow crack the axle housing from the stresses put on it by the backhoe. I recreated the rear mounts of the subframe to attach to the ROPS framing instead, turned out pretty well though it is slightly lower than the original mounts, an unavoidable consequence because of clearance issues. I can now hook up the BH without taking the 3pt linkage off, I'm happy with the outcome. If it breaks now I can just reweld the failure point.

Your JD backhoe mounting system might be the same or similar to the not so distant New Holland 758 backhoe series. Contact a NH dealer for some leads and look see.

Greygoose, what kind of tractor do you have? I could not fit the legs of the 8B (very similar to the 7) between the rear case and rear axle housings on my 4200. The only other option is under all of that but then you only get 3" of ground clearance. So it really isn't an option either.

Ok Guys, here is what I did.I took some 5/8 inch plate and made some L-shaped hangers to fit the crossbar on the backhoe. Then I welded these plates to the bottom of the drawbar mounting cage on the tractor. The drawbar cage is bolted with four 3/4 inch bolts to the rear axle housing-there is probably 2 inches of cast iron all around these bolts,so I don't see it breaking out. It's fairly easy to back the tractor up to the backhoe until these hangers slide underneath the crossbar on the backhoe frame. Then the rigid top link has some (not much) of the weight on it.This is the way the hoe was mounted to the JD 750 tractor that it came off of.I can't remember though if the hanger on that 750 was attached to the rear axles or the rear axle housing.I then made special drop-down brackets attaching the front of the long legs on the backhoe to the front end loader mounts for the front supports (out of 1/2 inch plate). It seems to work perfectly,I test dug a few 6 or 7 foot deep holes and it performed flawlessly. So it is not supported at all on the 3-point hitch,it is on the top link, rear hangers and front loader brackets.

Just picked up a JD backhoe 7 today. Told it mounted to a JD 640. I would like to mount it to a Yanmar 186D with a FEL. Any ideas?

Ronu, welcome aboard. I would start a new thread if I were you. That way you keep your information clear of the the original posters (OP).
Most people are going to tell you build some sort of subframe that will bolt up to your tractor.

I havent done it for a long time but I think you remove the bottom draft links on your 3 point hitch and the backhoe pins through there with 2-7/8" pins. Back over the hoe, in in the front pins to loader frame, then lift back and pin in place. My current set up is a bradco and the sub frame stays in place and it just drops into 2 hooks on the bottom and pins at top, much easier and faster.
