I have a GC2310 and there is play in the swing piston where it attachs to backhoe . It takes grease and is a fairly new machine. You can swing boom at bucket by hand a good inch or more. Is there a bushing or pin wearing that I should have checked or is it normal? Would this be covered under warranty or considered normal wear and tear? I posted this as part of a bigger question in brand specific, but didn't know which forum is best to post in. Thanks, plowking

May be normal. A little slack at bushing will give a larger movement at end of boom. If you move the eraser end of a pencil a little, the lead end will move in a bigger arc. If your concerned, ask the dealer, or go back by there and check a new, similar unit.

It sounds like you have a bushing and/or a pin that is worn a bit. Not a lot, but a bit. I fear it is normal wear and tear and won't be covered by any warrantee. You can decide how much wobble you want after you find out that the bushing is probably in the $50 range, the pin in the $100 range and labor to change in the $200 range. Now you have some idea why old BH's have a lot of slop in them and why old BH operators grease the bushings as if thier lives depended on it.

Just for fun, ask the dealer what it would cost to have them change the swing cylinder bushings and pin. Post back, I'd love to see how close my guess was!

Good advice from everyone. Check out anew unit and compare to yours. The more you use it the looser its going to get! Is the slop in the main swing pin or is it caused by some slop at the swing cylinder ends???

I took the pin out tonite, there is very little scoring and ram looks ok, but both ends of pin and where pin goes thru ram have some play. I packed the pin with grease, instead of using grease gun,but did regrease it with gun. It seems a little tighter. Looks like by using gun the grease goes around ram fine, but doesn't get all around pin on both ends. It squirts out around top of pin a lot in use. Thank you for the replies. In my owner's manual, it tells how often to grease machine and attachments, but not the proper method to grease swing piston on backhoe. I use Amalie grease in tubes from Napa, the grease is real sticky, but looks like it can get runny. plowking
