I posted this in the New Holland forum and got some replies, but I thought it might be better here.

Anybody know of a place where I can get cheap good quality hydraulic cylinders? Ones with available replacement parts would be great as well.

I plan to build a backhoe for my TC25D and I am in the information gathering stage right now. I have checked the web for plans, but I am not very impressed with what I found; mostly tow behind models (or 3-pt hitch models) that don't look very rugged and dont' offer the capability of the factory models. Any thoughts or feedback here would be appreciated as well.

I don't know if I should run off of the tractor hydraulics or if I should buy a pump and attach it to the rear pto. Any thoughts? I guess there are pros and cons to each, right? Does anybody know how and where to hook up such an implement to the tractor hydraulics?

I actually planned on going to my local dealer one day after hours and measuring the factory hoes to make my own set of rough plans. That way, all of the angles, distances, and engineering have been done for me already.

Has anyone taken on such a project? If figure I can save some money as a new BH is roughly $4500-$6000. I was toying around with buying a used one and reconditioning it, but they are still around $3500 and up.

Can anybody point me in the right direction of where I can find a good hydraulic system design guide. I'm trying to select the right pump and components which are appropriate for my tractor hp. I would like to get the highest pressure and flow rate my tractor's pto can handle. I have a New Holland TC25D. I'm not sure what the pto hp rating is but it is probably around 19 hp.

Kpk..I saw a post on TractorPoint by psimonson about a homemade BH that he built from plans for his JD2210. He posted pics and it does look nice. He probably could tell you where he got the plans & parts. Posted on the JD forum.

Thanks wildman1. I didn't even know that site existed! It looks pretty similar to this site. I have been very happy with the posts and replies here, but maybe I'll have a look-see.

Cad-Plans sells plans for backhoes & other such, plus they offer pre-cut metal & hyd kits as well. They are online, check google or the obvious names....
I had a hard drive crash, so a little light on my quickly available links....

I am still in the early planning stages ( until I have some free time and more$$$). I looked at new, used, and my friend's Cadplans. Now I am toying with making the tractor mount styled like some commercial subframes, and buying Kubota parts (little BX hoe) from the swinging cast piece out. Looking at some on-line parts pricing, this looks like a reasonable compromise in time, money, engineering, lots of complex fitting, etc. I figure I would have a tough time keeping the weight down if I built that stuff myself. If you buy all the pieces, pins etc, it's toot expensive, but the main pieces are as steep as I thought they would be.You might be able to get similar results with other hoe vendors. curious if anyone else has pondered this route /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

kpk,

If a primary reason for building your own is to save money, I would power it with the tractor hydraulics. The cost of the pump, tank, filter, etc. significantly adds to cost and work required. I don't think you will be dissapointed with the performance. My kubota B4672A backhoe came with a PTO pump and upon checking the specs on it were be no better than the 4.4 gpm tractor hydraulics. If your TC25 has the same or more hyd. flow as the current TC24 (4.9 gpm), you should be fine.

A subfame mount is more rigid and safer, unless some safety features are built into the three point mount, to prevent injury if failure should occur. Of course, a subframe is more work and not useable on other machines.

Good luck with it and as always, pictures please! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
