Hello All!

Just purchased a L2850 yesterday! Yeehaw!! It came with a Kubota backhoe (pto pump type) already attached (apparently, it hasn't been off the tractor in "some" time). I've dug all holes I need for the moment and would like to try one of the other attachments. BUT!! I don't know how to remove the PTO pump from the PTO!??! This is my first dealings with a PTO and I'm not sure how they attach (or come off :)...

Please help! Daylight is a waisting!

THANKS!!

Billboe

p.s. Of course, no manuals were included... :-(

More than once I've had to cut the coupler off with a small air operated cut-off wheel and replace the coupler. Tempting to use a torch but always worried about the pump seal and pto shaft seal. If it's been on there for a while (some guys never removed there backhoes) it gets stuck pretty good. Try "zeppin" it up real good (penetrant oil) for a few days maybee youll have some luck with that.

Thanks Kubmech... However, that's not what I wanted to hear!... :-(

So, normally, there isn't anything holding the pump on the PTO?? Is it just friction that holds the pump in place??

Thanks again! I'll go drench it with penetrating oil and perhaps perform a little kubota voodoo dance!

Wait...... I "assumed" you new about the locking pin that has to be depressed while sliding the coupler off. But a good drenching wont hurt. When you do get it off, grease it up real good when re-installing.

Right, there's a locking pin to keep the coupler from slipping off. It's usually a spring loaded pin that you depress with your thumb then pull on the pump shaft. The other arrangement is a ring/flange around the shaft that you pull back on and hold back while you remove the pump.

Did I mentioned I was a PTO newbie? :)

Yes, I do believe I have the locking pin type connection (see attached)... However, I wasn't able to depress the pin. Maybe after the oil seeps in... I'll have to go give it another try.

Thanks Again!!!

The over-night soak did the trick! Once I could push the release pin, the coupling slid right off the PTO shaft!

Thanks to all for the help!

Kubota Backhoe Pump shaft & the coupler - what is the part that I lost called?

I have a Kubota tractor with a PTO backhoe. The backhoe pump is attached to the PTO via a coupler just like this:
http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/.../5584-backhoe-pto-pump-removal.html#post56346

Yesterday I was putting the backhoe on and the pump slid off the shaft. So the coupler stayed on the PTO on the tractor's side and the pump fell off because the screw that holds the pump's shaft in the coupler became loose.

There are two screws holding the shaft in place, on goes against the shaft and one goes against this little square piece of metal that's in a little notch (in the coupler) and that keeps everything from slipping.

That "little square slightly angled piece of metal" is what I can't find now. I searched for it on the ground for a long time, but it probably flew off and I can't find it.

What is the right "term" for this piece I'm looking for? Do you guys know what I'm talking about based on my description or should I take some pictures?

Do you think I can get this as a replacement part? I'd hate to have to replace the whole pump.

Thank you for your thoughts.

I spoke to a friend - apparently the missing piece is referred to as a "key" in a keyway.

If anyone has something else to say that's useful about this missing part, I'd much appreciate it.

Thanks!
